My dog won't eat, is throwing up, and has diarrhea. Is it serious?

Poor Ace! The diarrhea could be due to many conditions including eating something he shouldn’t have, bacterial over growth, parasites or other even organ disease. It's likely the diarrhea and the not eating are related. If the diarrhea has continued beyond 24 hours, I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian. With continued diarrhea, there are often bacterial shifts in the gut that will make matters worse regardless of the initial cause. Make sure to bring in a sample of fresh stool. The doctor will check him for parasites and bacterial over growth. Many times a bland diet can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the normal food can be done. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. A good diet in general is Royal Canin. It is low residue and highly digestible. Since Ace will not eat anything you offer, he needs treatment and medication to get and feel better. When pets don't eat well, they often don't drink as much as they should and can become dehydrated. For that reason, I would highly recommend you have Cash evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check on this and treat him appropriately. If an obstruction is confirmed, surgery may be needed. It could also be something less serious such as gastrointestinal upset though it is still a good idea to confirm that. Best of luck!

It sounds like your dog is sick. The drooling can be due to nausea, and the lethargy, vomiting, anorexia, and diarrhea could be due to a severe GI illness, eating something rotten, pancreatitis, or a foreign body. I would take your dog into a vet right away for an exam, he sounds quite ill with all these symptoms, and he needs to be medically treated ASAP.

It sounds as Desiel is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Popy! Sadly there are too many possible causes for Popy's symptoms for me to give you an idea on prognosis. I was the Vet that answered your last question. If no tests were done we do not know what Popy's disease is. She needs blood work and at least X-rays of her belly. If tests were done then please post the results or sign up for a consult. Causes of vomiting and diarrhea are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, foreign body (ate something that is stuck requiring surgery to remove), kidney or liver failure, cancer, pancreatitis, toxin ingestion, etc. I hope this helps and I wish you all the best!

If possible, please take Bailey to your local emergency service for an appointment tonight. If this is not an option, you should withhold any water or food overnight, offer him very small amount of water in the morning and take him to your regular vets as soon as they open on Saturday morning.

Chronic vomiting, has multiple causes but may cause an electrolyte imbalance which could account for the symptoms you are seeing. If he is drinking more water than usual, he should be seen by your vet for an exam and bloodwork to rule out kidney disease, diabetes or other GI issues. When a pet is vomiting, withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet (1:1 ratio of plain boiled boneless chicken and plain white rice). Feed in small, frequent amounts waiting at least one hour between feedings. If he won't eat, serve the food warm or mix in a teaspoon of baby food to stimulate the appetite. If the vomiting stops, transition slowly to the regular diet. If not or if the appetite does not return, then you will need to see your veterinarian.
