My dog drank Amitraz (Ridd) by mistake. Is it toxic? What should I do?

In this product they use Amitraz. I have seen dogs react poorly to this medication. Typically they have vomiting, diarrhea and lethargic behavior. I would recommend taking him to your veterinarian for supportive care. Typically this is not a fatal medication but can make them dehydrated and need medical care! Some dogs just like people are more sensitive to certain medications. I would not recommend using this product again. Hope that helps

Amitraz toxicity can cause drooling as one of its many possible side effects. This is the main ingredient in Triatrix. The other side effects associated with this drugs are generally related to the central nervous system and the cardiovascular system. Milk will not help dispel as toxic amount of drug that was absorbed. Sparkle Jnr may require supportive care and decontamination depending on the nature of his clinical signs and current health. I would recommend a check up sometime tonight by a veterinarian. If toxicity is the cause of the clinical signs, this truly should not wait until tomorrow morning.

Given that she is a smaller dog, the effects might be more severe on her, and the best thing to do is to get her into an ER vet now to induce vomiting if she ate it within the past two hours. I would not try to make her vomit with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The reason is that H2O2 can and does cause severe esophagitis and gastritis, often worse than the initial problem, so it's always preferred to advise emergency care. Also, we have no way of knowing whether your dog is debilitated and has a greater chance of aspirating. I would call around local clinics to find a vet on call, or take Titi into a vet ER immediately for treatment.

If the ingestion happened several hours ago, there is likely to be no benefit in inducing vomiting - rather, a veterinarian would only be able to manage any symptoms that were noted. If all seems normal, there may not be any immediate concern - but if you are seeing sleepiness, lethargy, depression, or pale gums, you need to seek veterinary attention immediately.
