My dog took mirtazapine early. Is an extra dose okay for him?

Mirtazapine is safe to use with amlodipine. Mirtazapine at high doses could potentially decrease blood pressure, but at typically prescribed doses, it is safe to give with amlodipine. Mirtazapine does have a side effect of drowsiness or sedation in pets. It is commonly used in cats as an appetite stimulant. 30mg would be 4 times higher than I normally use, and this overdosage can cause: 57% vocalizing, 38% agitated, 23% vomiting, 21% tachycardic, 15% ataxic and 11% lethargic. The symptoms can last a little longer than 72 hours. As long as Dolly is still eating and drinking normally, I would continue to watch her. If the she is still not completely normal in a day or two, she may need a checkup with a vet.

I don't think this is serotonin syndrome. That dose is well within the safe range for Brandy. It may be anxiety, pain, related to another medical issue, or even cognitive dysfunction syndrome in dogs. I would recommend discussing this new issue with Brandy's vet. They may have some more insight on what could be the cause based on her medical history and recent physical exam. It may also be that the mirtazapine is not a good match with any other medications she is on. You could try a different appetite stimulant, called Entyce, which is specifically labeled for dogs.

Yes he should be fine. I would recommend just waiting until the morning to give another dose. Trazadone and tramadol can both cause sedation so please monitor for signs of severe sedation. If you notice any vomiting,diarrhea or severe sedation I would recommend taking him to an emergency clinic.

Pramipexole (Mirapex) has a narrow margin of safety in dogs. Nina ingested about 0.02mg/kg. At 0.03mg/kg, you may see vomiting. At doses of .06mg/kg and above, more serious symptoms, such as ataxia (wobbly gait), tremors and increased heart rate are seen. Onset of symptoms is within 90 minutes of ingestion. To be safe, you can have Nuna seen at the nearest veterinary ER. Vomiting can be induced via injection to get the pill out if it has been less than 90 minutes. Activated charcoal may be given afterwards to further reduce absorption. Supportive care may be administered as indicated and she may need to stay for observation. Another option would be to contact the Pet Poison Helpline. They have a large database and will be able to provide more information.
