My dog has an open wound. When should I take him to the vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 9 months old | 70 lbs

My friend's pitbull-victorian bull dog mix has an open wound possibly from a broken mirror. Hoping by the pictures you can tell us what is needed for him to heal. Thank you

He needs to be taken to the vet as it looks infected, he will need a course of antibiotics, i don't think this will require stitching but a bandage with a local cream may also be needed to help it heal faster.
