My dog had diarrhea, now has slimy poop & won't drink. Is this normal?

Diarrhea with mucus can be due to a variety of reasons, including intestinal parasites, dietary indiscretion, food intolerance, or another underlying issue. I would recommend having her evaluated by her regular veterinarian, have any necessary testing done (fecal analysis, etc) and start any treatment (probiotic/antidiarrheal) that she may need to resolve it. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Drake and Pierce! The slimy poop can indicate diarrhea and mucous can make it look slimy. Mucous can indicate inflammation in the colon. Causes of diarrhea in both dogs likely indicated a viral or bacterial infection or they both ate something that is disagreeing with them like a new food, treat or table food or they got in to something. Diarrhea can cause a poor appetite if they don't feel well. If they are having a lot of bowel movements you can consider fasting them for 12-24 hours to rest the GI tract. Then restart feeding as a bland diet of boiled chicken or beef with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day until 2 normal stools. If Drake continues to not eat well, or stops eating he should be seen by your Vet. As for Drakes' urine smell-It could smell stronger because it is more concentrated due to dehydration or he could have an infection. I feel sometimes intact male dog urine smells stronger. You can try to collect a urine sample and see if your Vet will check it for infection. I hope this helps and I wish both Drake and Pierce a speedy recovery!

Hello. If Ziggy's feces has otherwise become normal then a bit of slime can be normal. I would just continue to monitor and if the slime continues for more than a week then getting a fecal sample checked might be a good idea. Best of luck!

I recommend that you have Snickers evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! While this could be parasites, this is likely some degree of colitis. You can add a probiotic to her diet such as Fortiflora. You can use it for 1-2 weeks to see if it makes a difference. If it does not, you can consider switching to a sensitive stomach type diet. If no improvement, have her evaluated by your veterinarian so that the stools can be assessed. If she develops diarrhea at any point before then at that point she should definitely be evaluated by her veterinarian. Good luck!

Yes, probably a bout of colitis. I would not be overly worried. Just do as you normally do by withholding food for a 6-8 hours. The only other thing I would suggest is a 30 day course of a probiotic. You can use any probiotic made for dogs but I recommend Fortiflora. One packet on food daily. It is very palatable so dogs usually eat with no problem.
