My dog had diarrhea, now not pooping. What food or probiotics help?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Japanese Spitz | Male | unneutered | 4 years and 1 month old | 28 lbs

My baby has diarrhea the past 3 days, vomit 1x, lethargic on day1 but is active now. He's eating & drinking but less than usual. He's on anti diarrheal, antibiotic & silymarin meds. Its been 27hrs since his last watery poop & he peed only 2x. He won't eat rice & is only eating chicken/liver/fish. Can't contact his vet for some reason. Can I give him yakult (probiotic for dogs is hard to find here) & any suggestions on what food to give him to help him poop? He's a picky eater. Thank u so much!

I wouldn't be too concerned about Eskimo not defecating since he has been on an anti-diarrheal. It is not uncommon for a dog to go a few days without pooping after having diarrhea, so as long as he isn't straining to defecate it's unlikely that he's constipated. He will poop when he has to go! I'm assuming you meant to type yogurt - as long as Eskimo doesn't have a dairy allergy or sensitivity a small amount of yogurt once or twice a day is probably okay.
