Most monthly heartworm prevention cover intestinal parasites except tapeworms. Tapeworms are spread through ingestion if a flea, so they can be reinfected and need to be dewormer often if there is no flea control

Your pet should get two doses 2 weeks apart because this is the life cycle of the worm. I am sorry I misread your question during my initial answer. If your pet received less than the dosage needed, then you would simply need to redose him another equal dose for a 20 lb dog and he will then get his accurate amount of dewormer. Typically dewormers are dosed in mg's, so if you look at the mg dosage for the weight range he should have had, it should be close to double the mg dosage for a 20 lb dog. I hope this helps! Praziquantel is typically given as a single dose. It may need to be repeated in 2 weeks. According to package information, one 34mg tablet is the dose given to dogs between 6 and 10 pounds. You will need to confirm this with your veterinarian though. Legally, we are prohibited from telling you to administer any medication to your pet in the absence of a physical exam.

I recommend deworming at 10 day intervals. It, of course, depends on the medications, but if you mixed a second dose I would recommend adjusting the remaining doses at the correct interval originally prescribed.
