My dog keeps getting worms. Can I deworm him monthly with Drontal?

Your pet should get two doses 2 weeks apart because this is the life cycle of the worm. A drontal tablet will cover interna worms including tapeworms. The frequency of dewormer dogs depends on symptoms and their environment. Most monthly heartworm prevention cover intestinal parasites except tapeworms. Tapeworms are spread through ingestion if a flea, so they can be reinfected and need to be dewormer often if there is no flea control

I can certainly understand being frustrated with this problem! Drontal, in my experience, is a great deworming treatment, and it often takes at least two treatments to kill all the worms. That's because the first treatment kills the adult worms already present, and the second kills the ones who had not yet hatched at the time of the first treatment. Preventing worms does require treatment with a deworming medication every three months, and each dog in the house should be treated to prevent reinfection. I would recommend giving all the dogs in your home Drontal, and giving them this treatment every three months. You can also give them Panacur instead of Drontal, it's a good deworming treatment that works well in my experience.

You can use the Drontal Plus to deworm him now. It is an excellent deworming tablet and you only have to give him one tablet now. You should given him another deworming tablet in a month, and then he should be dewormed every three months thereafter.

Drontal Plus is extremely effective for treating tapeworms. However, I am concerned that if he vomited soon after giving the medication, there is a chance it did not absorb. I recommend that you call your veterinarian for a second dose - it will be safe to re-dose - just to be on the safe side! Next time give it at meal time so there is a lot of food in his stomach as this makes it less likely he will vomit the pill.

The reason for the second deworming 3 weeks later is to kill any tapeworms that were still immature at the last deworming and were not yet sensitive to the dewormer or if she has gotten infected again since the last deworming. Drontal is a very safe medication with very few side effects since it only affects the parasites in the GI tract. Drontal, either Plus or without, is only for removal of worms after your pet has contracted them, it does not prevent them from getting them. If your pet is at risk of picking them up, because they're outside or hunting, then a regular dose can be helpful. The 22.7 mg Drontal plus is labeled for both dogs and cats.
