My dog seems depressed after losing a pet. Are warm ears a concern?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Male | unneutered | 21 lbs

I just recently lost my yellow lab. She died and now my Pug seems depressed. He started to eat better again today. But his head and ears seem a little warmer than normal. Should I be concerned? He is still very active.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I'm sorry to hear that you recently lost your lab :( Other dogs can certainly be emotionally affected by the loss of a housemate, so it is not unusual for them to act off for some time. As long as Louie remains active, and is still eating/drinking/urinating and defecating normally, he will likely be OK. I hope this is helpful!
