My dog looks sad, ears back, no whine. Could she be in pain?

It would be a good idea to have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. She could have pain somewhere in or on her body or she could have anxiety. It is hard to say for sure without seeing her or examining her actions. I would recommend video taping her doing this and showing it to your veterinarian. The vet can also do a complete physical exam to make sure she is not hurting somewhere on her body. Typically pets will gnaw or limp on a certain leg if they are experiencing pain along the skin or musculoskeleton. If she is painful in her belly, then you can see vomiting, lethargy, and lack of appetite associated with it. I hope this helps and best of luck finding out what's truly going on with your pet Riley. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Jess! The most common cause for a limp or down tail and decreased activity is back pain. Back pain can be from a slipped disk or a muscle strain or sprain. They tend to hurt and thus do not want to play or jump up or do stairs. Pain also affects the appetite. I highly recommend a Vet visit today as it is Friday. The vet should be able to elicit back pain on exam. I treat with anti-inflammatories, pain medications, muscle relaxants and strict rest. I would recommend bringing Frenchie to a veterinarian to make sure there is nothing medically going on with her. It is concerning that she usually is very happy and playful but now isn't. After a good physical examination your vet can determine if there is diagnostics that need to be performed or a treatment that can be given. I recommend that if this persists, you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for this possibility and treat him accordingly. It is difficult to say for sure what the problem is since you are not able to find one particular area that is affected. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Bo to see if something can be found on a physical examination and then go from there in regards to diagnostics and treatment options. You could also monitor him for 24 hours and if there is no improvement, then schedule an exam with a veterinarian. Holding his head down slightly can also be a sign of spinal pain. I recommend resting him for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a leash, and bring him right back in when he's done. If he still appears painful after this time, then I would take him into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. He may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I hope this helps!
