Can I give my senior dog diazepam with tramadol, metacam, gabapentin?

If this was prescribed by your vet , then this is the amount of medicine he needs. Gabapentin may make him a bit drowsy in the beginning, but that should subside after about two weeks. Gabapentin is against nerve pain. Tramadol is an opioid which takes some pain as well and Metacam is a non-steroidal antiinflammatory which takes away inflammation and therefore also pain. These medicines are safe, however watch your dog's poo in the first two weeks. If it is black or tarry then stop the Metacam and inform your vet.

Tramadol and metacam can be given together. They are 2 different drugs with different mechanisms of action and different side effects. Metacam has a very narrow dose whereas tramadol has a wider, safer dose range. Metacam is an NSAID and can cause a variety of side effects, most notably gi ulceration and kidney injury. Dosing of both should be provided by your vet based on your pets health history and bloodwork. Monitoring of bloodwork is very important with metacam use. Metacam is an anti-inflammatory medication, tramadol and gabapentin are pain medications that work in different ways and are often used together, Clavaseptin and metronidazole are antibiotics that both cover different types of bacteria, and Cerenia is an anti-nausea medication that also has some anti-inflammatory effects.

The short answer is, yes, they can be given together however, I suggest you check with your regular veterinarian before combining any medications. Tramadol and gabapentin are safe to give together. Tramadol comes in 50 mg tablets. The upper limit of the dosing range for a 78 pound dog is 150 mg. However, I rarely start with the high dose. But tramadol can be used in conjunction with the gabapentin and a non steroidal anti-inflammatory medication ( or pred ) for chronic pain conditions. Take care.

Yes, it is safe to give gabapentin with Metacam and the joint supplement. Gabapentin is a drug that affects the nerves in the brain that are involved with the pain response. It can take up to three weeks before the body is used to the gabapentin and is not affected by drowsiness. The drowsiness is not something you have to worry about, it will go away. Be patient, it will take at least a week , up to three weeks.
