Why is my cat's urine dark yellowish-brown? Should I be worried?

My cats urine is a very dark yellowish brown color, could something be wrong?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The urinary tract symptoms you describe could be due to a urinary tract infection, urinary stones, a tumor, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have Hope evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Further diagnostics would include abdominal imaging and lab work. No, that is not normal to have a brownish urine. Bailey could have blood in her urine, which can be a sign of a UTI or bladder stones. I would take her into the vet today for an exam. Your vet can do routine blood tests and a urinalysis to see if she does have a UTI or bladder stones. If she has a UTI, she will need antibiotics to treat it. Bladder stones may need to be removed surgically, or can be managed with diet.

With his urine being dark brown I would be concerned about a possible urinate tract infection or even a partial urinary blockage. Make cats commonly develop sediment and/or stones in their bladder that can cause a lot of discomfort and even can block their urethra and prevent them from urinating. He could also be constipated and he may need an enema to help relieve him. I would take him to your vet to ensure his bladder isn't blocked or partially blocked because if this is left untreated it can cause issues with his kidneys from urine backing up or bacteria getting into his kidneys. Your vet will be able to palpate his bladder, run a urinalysis, palpate his colon to make sure he isn't constipated and even take X-rays if needed. Your vet will be able to come up with the appropriate plan of treatment to help him feel better. I hope this helps!

I recommend that you check and make sure that she is drinking enough water. Sometimes using several water bowls throughout the house is helpful. My cat has very dark urine and is licking a brown liquid. What's wrong?

Tiger may have a urinary tract infection or other issue causing dehydration and darker colored urine. I'd recommend having her examined by a veterinarian and also having a urine sample checked out. If necessary she can be given fluids as an injection to rehydrate her and be prescribed antibiotics to treat any infection that may be present. You can try offering her an all canned food diet to try to maintain her hydration. However, I do think she should be examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible. These signs might be compatible with a urinary tract infection/inflammation. Stress related (idiopathic type of inflammation) infection and presence of crystals are the most common causes of it. These signs must be checked as soon as possible as urinary tract infection can be dangerous in male (especially neutered) cats as it can develop into a urinary tract obstruction/blockage. HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Daisy! Daisy could have a urinary tract infection, but most animals do not lose weight with that. I recommend that you take her to your Vet first thing tomorrow. They should get blood work to check her kidney, liver and blood sugar and test her urine for infection or crystals. They may want to take a belly X-ray to check for bladder stones. Sometimes the urine can be discolored if they have bilirubin in the urine. Cats that are jaundiced are very sick. Check the whites of her eyes, her ears and that thin area of hair above the eyes. If it looks yellow then she should see a vet today. i wish you the best and a speedy recovery for Daisy
