My dog's poop is dark after stopping clindamycin. Is it normal?

The change is stool color is probably from the medication or new supplement. It doesn’t look like it is from blood from the photo. As long as he’s feeling fine finish the antibiotics and check the stool after they are done. It should go back to his normal stool color. No worries - it's not a dumb question at all! :) It's very common for canned food to result in softer stool, so this is the most likely cause. Antibiotics such as clindamycin (ClindaCure) can also cause soft stool or even diarrhea in some dogs, so this could be a contributing factor as well. As long as she is happy and acting normal, it shouldn't be any cause for concern.

Sometimes clindamycin can cause severe diarrhea. In that case you should stop giving the clindamycin and take Joy back to your vet for a recheck and a change of antibiotic medication. It is not a common side effect, but a known one.

Hi and thanks for posting! From the pictures, the stools appears to be somewhat firm, formed, but perhaps a little on the softer side which can be normal if this is his usual #2. Amoxicillin is an antibiotic which can cause softer or looser stools to form. if you are worried, you can always bring in a sample to your veterinarian for closer inspection.

Hello. If this is what his poop looks like now, I would not worry just because it was a little off color & smells. The medicine is probably doing this. As long as he continues to eat & drink, have normal, formed stools, finish his antibiotics as prescribe by your veterinarian & hopefully Billy will continue to do very well. I'm not sure what Panda is on antibiotics for, but I'm going to assume it was for issues with pooping. If they aren't improving things yet, it's time to ring the vet again and discuss other possible causes of these issues, including intestinal parasites and food intolerance.
