My puppy's poop is black/yellow on antibiotics. Should I call vet?

It is a good sign that Panda is eating and keep down food even though it's small amounts, but it sounds like to me you are very concerned about him. It can take at least 24-48 hours to see some improvement in symptoms, and it can take a while for him to go back to eating normally. That being said, eating grass can be a sign of nausea, and if he's eating a lot, he may still be quite nauseous. I think that since you feel he hasn't improved and I can't see him in person, it's a logical next step to go back to the vet for further testing.

Black stools is usually a sign of bleeding from the stomach or small intestines, it's definitely not a good sign and is not likely to be due to the antibiotics. i would recommend taking Curt back to the vet ASAP for re-evaluation of the situation.

The change is stool color is probably from the medication or new supplement. It doesn’t look like it is from blood from the photo. As long as he’s feeling fine finish the antibiotics and check the stool after they are done. It should go back to his normal stool color. Antibiotics are often used in bloodied diarrhoea in young pups to prevent bacterial infection spreading to the blood stream and are continued until the bowel has a chance to repair (5-7days). Antibiotic resistance is a higher risk if short or low doses are used

Hello. It is very common for some antibiotics to discolor the stool. As long as he is eating & feeling well, I would not be too concerned. You might call your vet tomorrow & just make sure this is a possible side effect from the medication that was prescribed, but I would not be too worried. Black stool indicates digested blood from the upper GI tract (esophagus, stomach or upper small intestines). It could be that Daisy's dewormer killed a large burden of parasites in her stomach that contained blood, or that she has a significant GI ulcer. Daisy should see her vet to determine if there is a likelihood of active bleeding, a heavy burden of parasites in her stool, and then treat with any necessary antacids. Given her young age, this sign is more concerning and urgent in nature.

I'm sorry to hear that Panda isn't feeling well. It is difficult to determine if his diarrhea is related to Rimadyl, ingestion of the rubber toy or stick, parasites, a virus, or other issue. Given all of these possibilities and the fact that his abdomen is tight and he has been straining for a bowel movement, I do recommend taking Panda to to his vet for evaluation. The vet will be able to perform an exam to palpate his abdomen and may recommend abdominal x-rays. Try to withhold food for the next 12-24 hours. If his vet appointment is more than 24 hours away, you can also begin to feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice for a few days before gradually transitioning him back to his normal diet over another 5-7 days.
