Dog crying in pain and bleeding from anus when pooping. What's wrong?

Poor Roscoe! It's not normal to bleed from the anus after bowel movements, and the thing you see sticking out of his anus could be a tumor, impacted and infected anal sac, or his rectum could be prolapsed. Roscoe could see a vet right away for this, and I would bring him into a vet ASAP to be examined so this can be treated.

She may have an infected anal sac or the mucous membrane of the rectum may be injured or she may have a rectal tumor. If the bleeding does not stop you will need to take her to a veterinarian or pet ER for an exam.

Based on the location, I am concerned that the left anal sac may be the cause for the bleeding. Dogs can develop anal sac abscesses, which is an infection of the anal sac (there are two located at the margin of the anus) that can rupture to the outside. These can be painful and will often require antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication to manage pain and allow healing. The other potential is an anal sac mass. Due to Ben's age I would be very concerned for this. Unfortunately there is not much that can be done from home for either of these conditions. It would be recommended to try to find the closest veterinarian to you and have Ben seen. If it is an anal sac mass, these often require surgery and have the potential to be malignant cancers.

It sounds like Smokey may have ruptured an anal gland that became impacted and/or infected. This condition is very painful. I recommend getting him seen by your vet as soon as possible for wound care and probably a course of antibiotics to help him heal faster. They can teach you how to express his anal glands or you can take him in periodically for them to do it for you as he needs it.

Poor guy. The only thing you can do at home here is to cleanse the area antiseptablly with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water or Chlorhexidine solution 3 or 4% diluted until a light blue mixture. If there is a lot of hair there, you can also gently cut away the hair to prevent further fecal matter to get stuck. If the area looks severely swollen, painful, or infected, then the best thing to do moving forward would be to get him seen and treated by your vet. It sounds like he is ingesting a lot of hair, so it would be wise to remove the source of his ingestion and either have him groomed more frequently and/or brushed at home more frequently to limit how much he is ingesting. If he still can't poop on his own, then yes he should see a vet to get an enema and remove all the stuck feces that are in his colon and provide him some relief. Poor Jameson! Bleeding like this could be due to an internal injury, problems with the rectum or anus, parasites in the stool, or irritation/inflammation of the lower GI tract. If his bleeding is not stopping, or has been ongoing a while, it is best to schedule a vet visit to check for these issues and get started on treatment.

Your dog could have hip or back problems that make it painful to posture to defecate and would also make it hurt when her tail is manipulated. It could also be infected or inflamed anal glands. This condition is very painful and makes it difficult to defecate or even move. Without treatment, the gland may rupture, causing a open wound on your pet's rear that will require wound care and antibiotics as well as some pain relief. I recommend getting your pet seen by your vet. They will examine your pet, possibly do some x-rays and labwork and be able to give you a better idea of what is going on and how best to treat it.
