Dog coughing, won't drink water. Can I give him Gatorade or Pedialyte?

Hello. You can give him some pedialyte to help boost his electrolytes occasionally, but as far as exercise, if he wants to go running and isn't sore, he will be able to drink enough to hydrate without loss of electrolytes. Since dogs eat balanced diets, they typically don't need electrolyte supplements, but pedialyte won't hurt after exercise. I hope that helps! Poor guy. Yes you sure can give him Pedialyte but only the non-flavored kind diluted 50:50 with water. You can use a syringe or small turkey baster to given it to him if he doesn't take it readily. You can give him as much as he will take readily (probably around 20cc's) and offer it every 4 hrs or so. Poor guy I hope Oliver feels better soon. Take care.

You may try offering a small amount (1/8 of a cup) several times daily. Vomiting can be rapidly dehydrating in young small puppies, so it can be hard to correct dehydration alone with oral liquids. Hello. If Belle feels like drinking, then yes, she can have Pedialyte to drink. You can also try to get her to eat using some cooked chicken or hamburger, or even jars of baby food ( with no onions or garlic in the ingredients ). If she still refuses to eat or drink, I do hope you can have her examined by your veterinarian. She may have some infection or inflammation that is making her feel ill. You can always try Gatorade, pedialyte or chicken broth to help give flavor and extra calories with electrolytes. If Chopper is not a fan of these options you can talk to your vet about how to give fluids under the skin (SQ) at home to help.

There are many causes of dehydration and given her symptoms, I would recommend having her blood tested to rule out kidney disease or any other systemic diseases / infections. She will likely need a course of subcutaneous fluids, which is when fluid is administered under the skin and absorbed by the body. This is an effective way to hydrate an animal and is well tolerated. Bandit is a very handsome guy! Pedialyte is safe for dogs, so it's fine to offer him some to drink if he likes it. You can offer some 2-3 times a day in addition to his regular water, if you like. Putting ice cubes in his water bowl, or using a pet fountain with moving water may also help encourage him to drink more.
