My puppy coughed and threw up clear water. Is she sick or overheated?

She may have a cold or kennel cough. They get this from other dogs and it causes a lot of coughing and often some nasal discharge. When dogs cough they also sometimes vomit a small amount as a result so I'm not overly concerned about the vomiting if Rainey is otherwise normal. Keep her quiet to reduce the coughing, and away from other dogs as this can be infectious. She should be better in a few days to a weeek or so. It also could be due to a throat irritation from eating the bark and other items. Same thing though, with time this should resolve on its own. If she should get worse and stops eating or starts more vomiting then it's time for a veterinary exam and treatment. Huskies are certainly able to overheat more easily than other breeds due to their thick coat. All of the clinical signs could potentially be related to something like that as well, but could be an indication of something entirely different. If there has only been episode of vomiting and some mild lethargy, I don't think it is entirely unreasonable to take a wait and see approach. If the rapid breathing becomes even more labored or Midna actually appears to be in any true distress, I would not delay and would take her into the veterinarian as soon as possible. As of now, it sounds like she's still eating, drinking, and functioning pretty normally. Keep a close eye on Midna, particularly the breathing, and should it worsen have her looked at right away.

This is likely an upper respiratory infection called Kennel Cough, this usually resolves within 2 weeks without treatment, but if the cough is too severe it is recommended to go to the vet in order to get cough medicine and antibiotics.

It's not normal to throw up from running around and playing. It's possible Kona has some tracheal irritation from a low grade infection or allergies and the exercise caused it to become worse. Irritation in the stomach could also cause the same clinical signs. You may consider having Kona examined by the veterinarian to be on the safe side. Resting Kona for the next week may also help (no activity that makes her pant or run). Monitor her for any respiratory symptoms such as coughing, sneezing or a runny nose. Poor Mila Mumu! The most common cause of coughing in a puppy this age would be a respiratory infection such as kennel cough - if this is the problem, it should be easily treatable with antibiotics. The good news is, it's really not possible for her to have heartworm disease at her age - this illness takes a very long time to develop after being infected, so we don't typically see symptoms of it in dogs less than 2-3 years old at minimum. It's good that you're planning to take your pup in to the vet today for an exam. He/she will listen to her heart and lungs, and may recommend chest x-rays or other testing if needed to help diagnose the problem. If she does have kennel cough (or something similar), your vet will probably send her home with antibiotics to treat the infection.

In the meantime, you can turn the shower to hot and close the bathroom door. Allow the steam to build up in the room. Then place him in the bathroom to breathe the warm humid air. Puppies (really all dogs, but it's more common in puppies) can get respiratory infections and that excessive coughing. Sometimes they cough so much that they vomit. That could be something that is going on with Princess. With any cough in a puppy, I recommend a visit to the vet to have them listen to her lungs and maybe take x-rays of her chest to make sure everything is ok.
