My husky is coughing, vomiting, and lethargic. Is it serious?

This is an emergency and Husky needs to go to the vet as soon as possible. Dogs are very good at masking illness and will only be lethargic like this when they are severely ill, or in shock. This can happen from an infection, heart disease, lung disease, metabolic disease, brain disease, or poisoning. The fact that Husky is breathing fast is very concerning that she is not getting enough oxygen, which can quickly become deadly if not treated appropriately. The emergency clinic will be able to ensure that she is well oxygenated and can determine that cause of this problem. I hope everything goes well and Husky gets better soon.

However if the panting and coughing is continuous and not seen during these particular instances, and if it i has been going on for more than 3-4 days with no improvement, then he could have an upper respiratory infection which generally is easily treated with a short course of antibiotics. I'm sorry Lucky isn't feeling well. If this has been going on for more than 1 day, then he should be seen by his veterinarian. There are too many causes to list that can make a dog vomit and not eat, but many can be serious. Panting in dogs is often a sign of pain or discomfort. When you take Lucky to the vet, be ready to answer questions about his regular diet, if he has eaten anything abnormal lately, does he chew on items, exposure to poisons or chemicals. As much information as you know about these things can help your vet narrow down possible causes for Lucky's illness. After examining Lucky they will make recommendations for further diagnostic tests such as blood tests or radiographs. I hope Lucky starts feeling better soon.

The most common reason for a dog this age to be coughing would be kennel cough. However, usually it is a dry cough and not a wet/congested cough. It could be from overheating but it is not very likely. I would just monitor her for now and if she is eating/drinking and acting otherwise normally then I would not be overly concerned unless the behavior continues. If she is not acting normally then she needs to see a vet for an exam.

Hi. Poor Rylee. The first thing I would say is that you need to take her to the ER this evening. Respiratory distress can be very serious. In Raley's case, it sounds like her kennel cough could be turning into pneumonia. She will need a good exam, and radiographs. That is most likely the issue and a common occurrence in severe kennel cough cases. Unfortunately another possibility we have to keep in the back of our mind, although rare, would be distemper virus. Distemper is a virus that affects a dog’s respiratory, gastrointestinal, respiratory and central nervous systems, as well as the conjunctival membranes of the eye. The signs of canine distemper can include sneezing, coughing and thick mucus coming from the eyes and nose. Fever, lethargy, vomiting and diarrhea, and loss of appetite are also symptoms of the virus. Let's start with an exam a x-rays of the chest a review of her vaccine status. Good luck

Lethargy and a loss of appetite are both signs of illness that can include dental disease, systemic illness, infection, or injury. Without seeing her in person, I can't narrow it down. I'd have her seen by a vet today. The vet can diagnose what is causing her symptoms and can treat her. Best of luck!

She may be experiencing abdominal pain from whatever is causing the vomiting. Antibiotics can cause some gastrointestinal upset resulting in vomiting and/or diarrhea, but I do not typically see patients as sick as she seems to be. I hope you are able to get her feeling better.
