My Doberman has circular scabby spots on his back. What could it be?

If looks like he has a dermatitis which could be from a bacterial infection, fungal infection, or possibly mites. He should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. Your vet may need to do a skin scrape, culture, or cytology to help determine the exact cause. Once diagnosed, the appropriate medication can be prescribed. Hi there-it sounds as if Bentley could have ringworm, a fungal infection. These are usually easily treated by Medicated shampoos and oral antifungals, as long as there are no complicating factors. Your vet can do a culture for this and get you squared away pretty quickly! Hope this helps.

Those spots on Enzo could be several things including allergies, skin mites, flea bites, ringworm (which humans can get) or a bacterial infection. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing his diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. You can wash the lesions with soap once a day and rinse well (don't wash his whole body, just those spots). You can also check/treat for fleas. Protect the areas from licking or scratching and he may need to wear an Elizabethan collar at all times. If the lesions don't start looking better within about a week or if they get worse, have him examined by the veterinarian who may prescribe medications. It looks like King may have a mild skin infection. Ringworm is still a possibility even if you don't have any lesions, as it tends to be an opportunistic infection. A bacterial infection is also possible, they can be secondary to allergies. If they are not getting better I'd have him checked out by your vet. He may need a topical or an oral medication to get rid of it completely.

It really comes down to figuring out what is causing her allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. A secondary infection is likely and also needs to be addressed. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

Ringworm can form a crust around it, so I wouldn't rule that out as a possible cause based on the presence of a scab. There are other infections (bacterial, fungal and parasitic) that can cause lesions that look like this as well. One thing that I would want to know is if a topical medication medication for fleas/ticks was applied to this area. I have seen some skin reactions to these products before. The only way to really identify the cause of this is to have Artimus evaluated by a veterinarian.
