My dog has increasing crusty spots on his back, but isn't scratching.

Pet's info: Dog | Bedlington Terrier | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 8 months old

Lots of crusty spots all over bedlington terriers back. He doesnt scratch them. They have been there for a few weeks and are increasing. He is otherwise healthy. We have seen no signs of fleas or their droppings and he is treated monthly for fleas

Hi there-it sounds as if Bentley could have ringworm, a fungal infection. These are usually easily treated by Medicated shampoos and oral antifungals, as long as there are no complicating factors. Your vet can do a culture for this and get you squared away pretty quickly! Hope this helps.

Hello and thank you for your post and picture! From your picture you provided, it looks as though Bentley may be dealing with a skin infection. If you are able to get into your veterinarian I would schedule an appointment to be seen so that your vet can prescribe the appropriate treatments to resolve this problem. If you are unable to get in to see your veterinarian right away, you can begin some basic topical treatments to see if that helps. I would recommend using duoxo chlorhexidine PS combination shampoo and bathe him twice-weekly. When bathing with this shampoo leave it sit for a minimum of 8 to 10 minutes and then rinse it off. I would also start Bentley on welactin omega-3 fish oil and essential 6 Spot on by dermoscent. I hope this helps! Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any other questions or concerns. You will need to take your dog to a veterinarian for a skin exam. Your dog could be suffering from an allergy, mites, fleas, a bacterial or fungal infection. each of these requires a different treatment, so it is important to find out what is causing the itch. This does, however look like a bacterial infection, Your vet will do a thorough exam and maybe a a skin scrape. He will then discuss the options with you and then prescribe medications such as antibiotics and possibly an antibiotic/antifungal shampoo.

Hello, & thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Without a fungal culture, it is very difficult to definitively diagnose ringworm. There are a lot of skin issues that can look red, crusty or flaky & not all of them will be ringworm. Using a combination of antifungal & antibacterial products is a great idea. For any shampoo, make sure the lather stays on the skin for at least 10 minutes before rinsing. If there is no improvement after about 3 weeks, or the skin lesions get worse, please have your veterinarian examine them

My Doberman has circular scabby spots on his back. What could it be?

It could be ringworm or a bacterial skin infection. Your vet could do a ringworm culture to determine if he actually has ringworm. If he has a bacterial skin infection then he would need an antibiotic to treat. Call your vet and give him/her an update so your vet can determine the next step. You could also bathe him with a medicated dog shampoo and see if that helps.

My dog can't scratch, has itchy skin and black crusty fur. Help!

I am sorry to hear about Freckles. The black crusts could be flea dirt, which is digested blood left behind by the fleas (if you place it on a paper towel and wet the black debris and it turns a rust color then it is likely flea dirt). We can also get skin infections resulting in crust and debris in dogs. I would recommend an examination by his vet if he is very itchy. He may need oral medications, or a topical treatment such as a medicated shampoo like Duoxo Chlorhexidine may be needed.

It's possible your pet is experiencing symptoms of a bacterial infection due to mange mite infestation. You'll want to be sure to visit your local Veterinarian as soon as possible and request a skin scraping examination. This will allow your doctor to identify the underlying cause of your pets discomfort. You're doctor may prescribe an antibiotic to help stop the infection and mite/mange treatment if needed.

What's a red, crusty spot with chunky dandruff on my dog's neck?

It looks he has a dermatitis which could be secondary to a bacterial or fungal infection. You could clean the area with a wound wash and see if it resolves. If not and/or he has multiple lesions, he should be examined by a vet for treatment.
