My dog chewed a Dettol bottle. Is Dettol toxic? What should I do?

Unfortunately I can't find any information on whether or not Adaptil is harmful either. My feeling is that there is probably minimal concern, but it is hard to know how caustic or irritating the carrier agent for the Adaptil might be. I think your best bet would be to consult a toxicologist at animal poison control (link below). Dettol can be toxic to cats when ingested but if she only licked a small amount then she might be fine. At this point, continue to monitor her for any abnormal signs, including vomiting, diarrhea, hypersalivation, lethargy, and decreased appetite. If you notice anything abnormal then have your vet examine her. Also, make sure to wash her paws to remove any remaining chemicals.

Hello, and thank you for your question. It is difficult to tell whether Bentley ingested a toxic amount of the deodorant since it was a spray. Aerosols can contain hydrocarbons which are volatile compounds that can cause stomach upset. If you think she ingested a large amount of the spray, I would take her to the vet now just in case. Otherwise, I would monitor her for any vomiting or diarrhea. If this happens, I would contact your vet at that point. If mild diarrhea is seen, you can try fasting her for about 12 hours, then start offering small frequent meals of a bland diet such as boiled chicken and rice. As long as Hoyle didn't consume a large quantity of this stuff he should be OK. This product is primarily an irritant to the skin and eyes, and doesn't seem to have much toxic effect unless consumed in very large quantities. I would be concerned that she jumped because she fractured a tooth or injured herself on the can. She may have just been startled. A small amount of air freshener is likely to be bitter and may cause besides and vomiting. I recommend keeping a close eye on Marley. She should be seen by a vet if you think she is painful in the mouth (hypersalivating, guarding, etc) or is vomiting or lethargic. I hope this helps and that all is well with Marley!
