My cat licked Dettol water and has soft stool. Should I worry?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 9 lbs

My cat stepped into water with dettol in it yesterday and licked her paws. She had a soft stool this morning, but otherwise eats, drinks and plays normally. I cannot take her to the vet right away. Should I worry? I am keeping a close eye on her.

Dettol can be toxic to cats when ingested but if she only licked a small amount then she might be fine. At this point, continue to monitor her for any abnormal signs, including vomiting, diarrhea, hypersalivation, lethargy, and decreased appetite. If you notice anything abnormal then have your vet examine her. Also, make sure to wash her paws to remove any remaining chemicals.

Was the floor wet? Was the Dettol diluted? There should not be any problem with this. If anything it may cause a mild upset stomach that should resolve on it's own. In the future, just make sure the floor is dry before he walks on it.
