My dog can't stand or lift head after parvo recovery. What's wrong?

Clinical signs of good appetite, normal activity and mental status and no more vomiting or diarrhoea episodes are usually signs of good recovery. It sounds like Harley is not recovering very well. That is not normal for pups recovering from parvovirus. I recommend an evaluation with a rehab veterinarian if there is one in your area. They can give you exercises to strengthen the rear legs and determine if it’s from a back or leg problem or just weakness from the diesease. Try the following; Add boneless boiled chicken breast to her food to increase nutrient in take You can reserve some of the brother from cooking the chicken for hydration Consider a trip to the veterinarian for fluids over a 24 hour period to rehydrate her body and help her perk up. It sounds like your puppy is extremely sick, and parvovirus can take a few weeks for a dog to fully recover. It's very concerning he is not drinking as dehydration is the number one cause of death in these animals. He should see a vet again immediately, please take him into one now. Best of luck.

I'm very sorry Ghost has parvo! He could have accidentally injured himself somehow at the vet's, which would cause the limping and reluctance to stand. Given that he's going back to the vet in 12 hours, I would keep him quiet for now. Have him rest as much as possible, take him out to toilet on a lead only, and bring him right back in when he's done. When he's back at the vet's later, they can assess him for the cause of the limping.

Poor guy. There are some complications that can arise from a pet having Parovivirus, and one of them is a condition called intussusception (folding in of the intestines). This is what I suspect may be going on with your pet Trap. He could also just have a really bad bacterial infection secondary to the parovirus and is in need of additional antibiotics. I typically put pets on Metronidazole and Cefazolin or Penicillin for total coverage. Talk to your vet about additional antibiotics. Also Trap could very well be shaking because he is in pain. Parvovirus causes sloughing of the intestines, which is uncomfortable for pets. Ask your vet about pain meds (i.e. Tramadol) for Trap. Most pets will begin showing signs of recovery after 4-5 days of starting treatment. It sounds like Celie is still not doing as well as expected and that is concerning. I recommend to have her examined again. Have her bloodwork checked to see if she is struggling with low blood protein levels or low platelet numbers. Some pets may need additional colloid fluids or a plasma transfusion. Your veterinarian may also need to do an x-ray to see if there is something else going on like an intestinal blockage. Celie should also be eating a bland diet. I recommend one of the prescription diets like Hill's i/d or Royal Canin gastrointestinal. She may need to be force fed (but only do so with your veterinarian's approval). If you do continue to feed her baby food, make sure there are no onions or garlic in the ingredients. If you cannot get food into her easily, she may need a feeding tube placed or other form of parenternal nutrition. It sounds like you are trying very hard. I can't say if she should be examined tonight or not since I can't examine her and don't know what condition she is in. If she is declining though, she should be examined tonight for sure. Definitely have her checked first thing tomorrow morning if she does not go in tonight. I hope this helps and that Celie starts to recover as expected.
