My dog beat parvo, but is weak, can't stand, and dehydrated. What now?

This is a sign of extreme weakness, your puppy is obviously still very far from recovering from Parvo, you need to make sure he stays hydrated, if he isn't vomiting you need to encourage him to drink as much as possible, and of course continue with the treatment your vet gave you.

Most pets will begin showing signs of recovery after 4-5 days of starting treatment. It sounds like Celie is still not doing as well as expected and that is concerning. I recommend to have her examined again. Have her bloodwork checked to see if she is struggling with low blood protein levels or low platelet numbers. Some pets may need additional colloid fluids or a plasma transfusion. Your veterinarian may also need to do an x-ray to see if there is something else going on like an intestinal blockage. Celie should also be eating a bland diet. I recommend one of the prescription diets like Hill's i/d or Royal Canin gastrointestinal. She may need to be force fed (but only do so with your veterinarian's approval). If you do continue to feed her baby food, make sure there are no onions or garlic in the ingredients. If you cannot get food into her easily, she may need a feeding tube placed or other form of parenternal nutrition. It sounds like you are trying very hard. I can't say if she should be examined tonight or not since I can't examine her and don't know what condition she is in. If she is declining though, she should be examined tonight for sure. Definitely have her checked first thing tomorrow morning if she does not go in tonight. I hope this helps and that Celie starts to recover as expected.

Clinical signs of good appetite, normal activity and mental status and no more vomiting or diarrhoea episodes are usually signs of good recovery. It sounds like Harley is not recovering very well. Absolutely should you feed the nutrical. It aids recuperation and healing. Make her food soupier, so she drinks a bit more broth. Piper likely has a lot of hydration from being on an iv, and may not be so thirsty yet. Keep up feeding her bland food , the broth, and the nutrical. Parvo is a severe illness and it will take a few weeks before your puppy is 100% again.

That is not normal for pups recovering from parvovirus. I recommend an evaluation with a rehab veterinarian if there is one in your area. They can give you exercises to strengthen the rear legs and determine if it’s from a back or leg problem or just weakness from the diesease. The sooner you get him up and standing and walking the better since the muscles and ligaments need weight bearing and movements to get stronger. Just have water available for her to drink if she wants it. She may not be interested in drinking because you are giving the SQ fluids. The biggest thing that seems to help recovery in parvo cases is to get them eating as soon as possible. So, if you can try feeding her some canned puppy food that would be best. The chicken is OK but it does not have all the nutrients and vitamins needed to help her recover quickly. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

It sounds like your puppy is extremely sick, and parvovirus can take a few weeks for a dog to fully recover. It's very concerning he is not drinking as dehydration is the number one cause of death in these animals. He should see a vet again immediately, please take him into one now. Best of luck.
