Why is my dog suddenly burping after switching to new adult food?

Yes, you are correct that the change in diet can cause Quincey to have this gas. It was an excellent idea to bring him to the vet for a health check, and I'm glad she said everything looked ok. I think it's also an excellent idea to feed him the Royal Canin gastro for the next few days. If that helps with his gas, I would slowly add back in his diet. As for his diet, I'd recommend going back to the Royal Canin. I'm not sure why you would switch foods, but it does seem like the new diet doesn't agree with his stomach, and unless you want to deal with a lot of farts, I'd put him back on a food that doesn't give him gas :-)

He absolutely needs to be on a puppy food, unless the "adult" food you are giving your other dog is one that is "appropriate for all life stages". Any time we switch foods we can cause stomach upset. I recommend adding in small amounts of the new food to the old food, and slowly increasing the amount. If Chance has a particularly sensitive stomach, you should wean him onto the new food over a week.

If Snowball is eating quickly she could be swallowing lots of air which can cause burping. There are a number of bowls available that force dogs to eat slower which may be helpful. I would talk to your vet again before starting her on medication just to be on the safe side. Good luck!

It would be best to pick up any food for a few hours, and then offer a bland meal of boiled chicken and rice to help settle Jack's stomach, then return to his old food. Once his tummy has settled down, you can then start transitioning to the new food over a period of 7-9 days (I would recommend only adding in one new food at a time, instead of both a new wet and dry food, to minimize upset). You can add in 25% new food to the mix every 2-3 days as long as he seems to handle eating the mix. If he continues vomiting, worsens, or switching back to the old diet doesn't improve his symptoms, then it is best to seek veterinary care to rule out any other underlying issues or illnesses that may be the cause of his vomiting.

It sounds like he could be having some nausea. It could be related to the change in food but if it continues than he should be examined by your vet to determine the cause and then prescribe medications to treat. He may need an antacid or an anti-nausea medication. You could also add a probiotic, like Proviable or Fortiflora to his diet and see if that helps.

It would be better is she was switched to an adult dog food. Small breed dog foods are typically a small pellet. Eukanuba has a small breed adult dog food so you could try that and see if she is able to eat that food. You should gradually switch to the adult food as an abrupt change may cause some gastrointestinal issues.

If you can, go back to the other dog food. Dogs with very sensitive stomachs should be transitioned to new foods (even new flavors of the same food!) over 4 weeks. If the upset stomach continues for longer than 24-48 hours, Captain Hook should get checked out by the vet for medications to help with his symptoms.
