Why is my dog gassy and farting after changing to a new food?

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 6 months old | 11 lbs

Dog has been pacing the last few days when it happens I take him out and he farts while pooping he has been farting for just over a month when he poops. Changed his food a month ago from royal canin to wellness small breed and I think the new food is giving his gas I read that peas and tomatoes cause this and the wellness small breed has both. So today I got him some royal canin gastro wet food to eat for the next few days.Brought him to the vet today for a physical she said everything looks ok.

Yes, you are correct that the change in diet can cause Quincey to have this gas. It was an excellent idea to bring him to the vet for a health check, and I'm glad she said everything looked ok. I think it's also an excellent idea to feed him the Royal Canin gastro for the next few days. If that helps with his gas, I would slowly add back in his diet. As for his diet, I'd recommend going back to the Royal Canin. I'm not sure why you would switch foods, but it does seem like the new diet doesn't agree with his stomach, and unless you want to deal with a lot of farts, I'd put him back on a food that doesn't give him gas :-)

Gas build up can be very uncomfortable and can occur wither due to dietary sensitivities or due to undigested food fermenting in the bowel. A probiotic such as fortiflora and a gradual return to the original diet after 7-10days of gastrointestinal diet would be recommended. In severe cases a hydrolyzed diet such as royal canin hypoallergenic is required

I hate to hear that Lou is having that issue. It sounds like he has an upset tummy, though to what extent, it’s not clear yet. Upset stomachs can occur due to many reasons. If he seems over all normal, you may wait it out or try a bland diet for 24 hours to see if it passes. If he starts having diarrhea or seems like he doesn’t feel good, you should take him in to see his veterinarian.
If you start to see that’s becoming a more frequent occurrence, you may try switching food. Pro Plan is a great diet but you may also try the Royal Canin French Bulldog formula as it has special fibers meant to decrease gas.

Hello. This much gas is of concern, but it is not an indication that nutrients are not being utilized. Hills i/d is a high fiber food, and the intestinal bacteria may just be trying to adjust to the new diet. This might take several weeks. If the gas production is still overwhelming, I might try one of the hypoallergenic diets like the Prescription Diet z/d & see if this helps with the gas. My dog has extreme gas. His current diet isn't working. What helps?

Hi there. I suggest you use a probiotic for Bentley. Fortiflora is my favorite but you can use any probiotic made for dogs (no human products or dairy). I would give it daily for one month to see if there are any changes. The probiotic adds "good bacteria" to his intestinal tract that may quiet the gas. So, I suggest you speak to your vet about deworming him. Finally, diet recommendations for dogs with gas is a diet that is highly digestible with low fibre and low fat content. My dog has constant, foul-smelling gas. Diet changes didn't help!

Change his diet to boiled chicken and rice a GI formukabsince it is easy to digest. You can also add a probiotic to the food to help replenish the good, normal bacteria. If this does not help you can try gas x. If it continues then I would consider a check for parasites and blood work to make sure oral medicine is it needed

The most common reasons are bacterial imbalance issues, a poor response to the fiber in the diet or parasites. You may try switching the food. I recommend Royal Canin because it has a great fiber blend. You can start them on a probiotic - Purina FortiFlora is a great one. Why is my 12-year-old Briard suddenly so gassy? What should I do?

If this is the only sign you could try changing to a highly digestible diet (like Hill’s i/d or Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Low Fat) as long as she doesn’t have any food intolerances or diseases requiring a therapeutic diet. Sometimes I also have people try a probiotic like Fortiflora. If she has also had a decrease in appetite, diarrhea or weight loss you should see your veterinarian.

Dog's sensitive stomach, smelly poop/gas. How to fix without changing food?

If he is a young dog it is possible that he has a mild food allergy or an easily upset stomach (sometimes this is irritable bowl syndrome). Typically strong smelling gas in from the diet. I think slowly switching Ziggys food to maybe a different protein source of purina would help calm down or stop the gas. However, if you want to try an over the counter probiotic every day in the food and see if helping the good bacteria grow improved the gas. Do not forget to have a fecal checked for parasites just incase! hope that helps

My dog has soft stool and gas. What are the common causes and fixes?

This could be due to a number of things, most like;y him eating something that disagreed with him, something too rich that he isn't used to eating. If you changed his dog food recently or introduced wet food to his diet this could be what started it. Other possibilities include parasites, food allergies, or bacterial infection. Try feeding him a bland diet for a few days, plain cooked white rice mixed with an equal part of plain boiled chicken breast, unseasoned, or plain hamburger, cooked and the fat rinsed off. If the symptoms persist or get worse, including developing new symptoms like diarrhea, lethargy and loss of appetite, get him seen by your vet as soon as possible for an exam and fecal analysis.
