My dog's paws are burned and peeling. Should I take my dog to the vet?

Ouch. Poor Skye. Paw pad burns can certainly happen on concrete in the summer. If she is very painful or a large area of the pad is missing she needs to see a veterinarian. If it's moderate you can clean with gentle warm water, apply antibiotic ointment and bandage her feet. Do not give any otc pain medication. As long as the pads don't become infected, I would expect them to heal within 2-3 weeks. Ripped pads are very painful to dogs. If Daisy was not prescribed painkillers, please take her back to your local vets to get a course of anti-inflammatory medications. She may need stronger pain relief (for example opioids) if anti-inflammatory medications do not provide adequate pain control.

Get some Epsom salt and bathe her foot in warm epsom salt solution for 10 minutes. Do this a few times. Check her paw again for any residue and remove any of the grass. By tomorrow this should be better. If it swells or gets worse, there may be some in or under the skin and it may be better to have Dove's paw examined by your vet.

I'm so sorry to hear that Reaves and Marilyn are having such a hard time after their hike. Paw pads can take a while to heal and can be very painful. I would recommend having your veterinarian examine them to determine if they need any treatment other than what you are currently doing, to determine which pain medication will help them feel better, and also to determine the best way to protect their feet. Sometimes I will recommend commercial booties while paw pads heal, but sometimes I will teach owners to bandage feet at home if they are severely affected. Good luck! I hope they feel better soon. Poor Lucky! Place the back of your hand on the pavement, and if you can't hold it there for five seconds, it's too hot to walk him. It does sound like he may have burned his paws on the walk, and I would limit his walking for now to allow his paws to heal. When you do walk him, do it on grassy surfaces. Keep him inside as much as possible. You might consider getting him doggie booties to protect his paws when walking. I'd leave his paws along for now, keep an eye on them. If they appear infected (red, swollen, warm to the touch), then I would take him to the vet. I hope this helps!

Hello there and thank you for posting your question! It looks like Ford developed some blistered paw pads. If you cannot get her seen until No day, I would go buy a set of dog booties to keep her feet covered until Monday and if she starts chewing at the paw pads, you should buy a plastic cone to go around her head so she does not make it worse. You can try soaking the paws in some cool water to help relieve any discomfort she may have. On Monday, your vet may want to put her on anti-inflammatories and an antibiotic. I would recommend that you have Pepper checked out by a vet. The area you circled looks very irritated, and the slight staining of the hair around it may indicate that she has a yeast infection. You can continue the Polysporin ointment twice a day. No peroxide or alcohol. She may need to wear booties if she goes out in wet grass or dirt. Unfortunately, she will need to wear the e-collar until it is completely healed to prevent infection and decreased healing time. Paw pads can take 3-6 weeks to completely heal :(
