What's this bleeding, crusty spot on my dog's back? Is it a tick bite?

Skin lesions like Coco has can be caused by bacterial, parasitic or fungal infection, dietary or environmental allergies or sensitivities, immune system disorders, an insect bite like you mentioned, or a combination of the above. I recommend making an appointment to have Coco seen by your veterinarian to help determine the cause of the lesion you’ve noticed and to make sure it is treated appropriately. The vet will likely want to look at a sample from the area under the microscope to determine if there is an infection and to figure out what medication is appropriate for treatment. In the meantime, you can bathe Coco in hypoallergenic shampoo for dogs to clean the area, but this will likely not resolve the lesion.I recommend getting Coco on parasite prevention year round. That looks like it could be some sort of parasite larva or a tick. Certain types of flies will lay the eggs on the skin and the larva can migrate into the skin. Ticks are usually dark colored but variations can occur. Regardless, I recommend to have Luna visit her veterinarian today. Larva tends to be fragile and you don’t want it to tear and leave a pice if it’s body in the skin. Ticks are easier to remove but sometimes the heads will tear off and remain embedded in the skin. While I can't tell for sure from the picture, I believe this may be dried discharge from a cyst. Poodles and other breeds with continually growing hair are more prone to sebaceous cyst formation. Sometimes these cysts can rupture and push out a thick cheesy material. When this material dries it can form a crust that when removed reveals the inside of the cyst. I would keep the area clean and monitor for any signs of redness, continued discharge or swelling. Do not allow Pogo to lick at the area and if it becomes inflamed he should be seen by your veterinarian.

It doesn't look like a tick to me, but it's hard to tell. It may be a mole or wart that has gotten irritated or caught on something to make it bleed. If this has come up suddenly, I recommend getting it checked by your vet. If it is a growth that has suddenly appeared, it should be checked to identify what kind it is and whether it should be removed or if it can be left alone.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. Judging from the photis, this appears to have a raised area in the center. This could be a sebaceous cyst that ruptured and is now secondarily infected or has an open wound on it that won't heal. I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at this and have some additional testing performed on it to determine what it could be. With more information on what this could be, the most appropriate treatment can then be started. If you are unable to get to your vet right now, I would recommend using an ointment called zymox topical ointment to apply to the area. If the ointment does not help aftwr 5-7 days or it worsens during that time, I would get kane to the vet for an exam. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). It does not specifically look like a tic bite. A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching.
