My dog has a bleeding bump. Could it be a tick or something else?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 88 lbs

Hi. I need to know if this is a tick. Keeps bleeding when I touch it. Stops after. Dog has not left our yard for ages.

It doesn't look like a tick to me, but it's hard to tell. It may be a mole or wart that has gotten irritated or caught on something to make it bleed. If this has come up suddenly, I recommend getting it checked by your vet. If it is a growth that has suddenly appeared, it should be checked to identify what kind it is and whether it should be removed or if it can be left alone.

Hi there. From what I can see in the photo, this looks consistent with a skin tag - a type of benign (non-cancerous) skin growth that is common in older dogs. Some of them can grow to be quite long and dangly :)

To be safe, I would recommend having this checked by your vet in person when you are able to. He/she may recommend a biopsy or surgical removal if there is any concern.

It looks like it could be a skin tag. You can monitor it for rapid change or growth. If necessary, your veterinarian can perform a fine needle aspirate to collect samples for pathology or simply remove it and submit it for biopsy.

This looks like a skin tag or wart. It is harmless and shouldn't cause your dog any issues. I would recommend just leaving alone for now. If it does start to bother your dog you can always talk to your vet about having it removed.

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Poor Moco! Due to his age, the appearance and the location it looks like a histiocytoma. Which is a benign mass in young dogs. They tend to resolve on their own in a few months but sometimes if they ulcerate, grow rapidly, become infected or bleed we recommend removing them. Another possibility is a mast cell tumor. My dog's white bump is now red, bleeding, and oozing. Why?

This looks like a typica skin wart/skin tumor or cyst. Since it has been present for so long and has not grown at all, it is probably benign (non cancerous). It looks as if the area has been irritated somehow, probably by your dog scratching at it, and is now bleeding and may be infected. Or, if it is a cyst, the white material may just be cystic exudate. I would recommend cleaning the area with some dilute hydrogen peroxide then applying some antibiotic ointment to help prevent infection and to help it heal more quickly. Occasionally these need to be removed but only if they are a constant source of irritation or infection for the dog. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. My dog has a grey, tick-shaped lump on his leg that bled when touched

Hi there and thank you for your post! It sounds like when you attempted to remove it, you caused it to bleed a bit. Based on your description this sounds like a benign skin tumor but to be safe, I would have Kahuna's vet take a look at this to make sure it is nothing to be concerned about. Your vet can insert a small needle into the mass and look at the cells under a microscope to get a better idea of what it could be. If it is small enough and is benign, it can be removed with a local anesthetic or by freezing it with a cryogenic procedure. If it is suspicious looking though, your vet may want to remove it and send it out for further testing.

Dog's black spot on cheek bled after squeezing. Tick or blister?

Hello. It is impossible to see if this was a blood blister or tick, but I would continue to clean the area 1-2 times daily for a least a few days. My concern is if this was a tick, you might have squeezed the ticks contents into your dog & this may incite an inflammatory reaction or even cause one of the tick diseases. So watch Thunder over the next couple of weeks. If the blood spot returns, it may be a small tumor that needs to be evaluated. If Thunder becomes lethargic, shows some signs or joint pain, or loses his appetite, see your vet & ask to have Thunder tested for tick disease. What's this bleeding bump on my dog's back leg? What should I do?

It may be bleeding because he's been picking at it. Apply gentle pressure to stop the bleeding, then put a bandage on it to protect it.
