My dog has a red spot on her belly. Could it be a tick bite or Lyme?

That almost looks like it is some sort of infected wound or possibly a ruptured cyst. Certain types of flies will also lay their eggs on the skin and the larva will migrate into the skin. A skin lesion like you are describing can have multiple causes, such as a tick (or other insect) bite, or a fungal or bacterial infection, among others. If it does not resolve in 24-48 hours, spreads, worsens, she starts acting ill or you are worried, I would have it checked by your regular veterinarian to see what may be going on, and if any treatment is needed. Hi, and thanks for your question. This could be due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). Hello. Lily may have a mild staph infection on her belly, & these are very common in young dogs & puppies. Simparica Trio is an excellent product, so it is unlikely these are any kind of bites. If the red spots continue, you might ask your veterinarian for an antibacterial shampoo. This is often all that is necessary to clear up these mild infections & rarely do you need oral antibiotics . It could be an insect or tick bite, it could also be ringworm, if this does not get any better within a week you will need to take her to your vet in order to get it checked and treated. try to avoid contact as ringworm is contagious to humans as well.

Hello, thank you for your question about Buddy. Based on the photos that you have attached I think that it is very possible that this lesion could be a bug/spider bite. It is also possible that Buddy was exposed to something irritating to his skin. If he is not bothered at the area and it does not seem very painful I would recommend continuing to monitor him. If the lesion progresses or he develops any additional symptoms I would have Buddy evaluated by your veterinarian. Hope this helps, good luck!

Poor Odyssi! The red pimple-like lesions that you are seeing could be related to a skin infection or contact reaction to insect bites (mosquitoes, fleas, etc.). A trip to the vet is in order to further assess these lesions, as antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medications are likely needed. At this point, make sure that she is receiving a high quality flea and tick preventative (such as Nexgard, Bravecto or Advantix) regularly. You can also bathe her in a gentle oatmeal-based shampoo (unless you are using topical flea control). If Odyssi seems overly itchy, put an e-collar (cone) on her until her vet appointment.
