My dog spilled bleach, has burns and wheezing. Does he need a vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 11 years and 4 months old | 10 lbs

My Shitzu while I was at work spilt a bottle of bleach on the outside he has chemical burns on his right siide of the leg as well as his paws (as seen in picture). He secretes a lot of mucus I and his eyes are swollen (as seen in picture) he also has a slight wheeze and goes into a daze every now and then this happened about two days ago he is eating more than he did the first day but I would like to know if he needs medical help or if I can treat him myself. Thank you.

Oh dear, poor Shitzy! Bleach can certainly cause significant irritation to the respiratory tract if inhaled, skin or eyes upon contact. Shitzy will need to go to the vet for evaluation, particularly since he has been wheezing and having respiratory changes. Eyes are also delicate structures and can change rapidly, so his vet will be able to determine which medication is most appropriate for his condition. I hope that all goes well!

Dog inhaled bleach. Should I worry about sneezing and groaning?

You did just fine providing the treatment you did . In the future I just recommend you refrain from using milk - dogs really can't process milk well and some will get an upset stomach and/or diarrhea from it. I highly doubt they ingested the bleach but if you are worried you should take them to a vet for an exam. You know them best so if you are worried you should have them seen.

Bleach is irritant to the airways, to the eyes and skin. First of all, you have to check your pets if they don't have any breathing difficulties and they don't have watering eyes. Secondly, you should check the paws for redness and any sores. If they do have red skin or watering eyes, you should clean that areas in warm water. If they have any signs of airways irritation (sneezing, coughing, panting) you will need to take them to your local vets.

immediately wash your puppy in fresh water. rinse it off under under luke warm running water in the sink. Check its skin for damage, excessive reddening. If your puppy does have skin lesions or if it inhaled any of the bleach water or ingested it, you will need to take it to a per emergency room right away, Bleach water in the lungs or stomach is life-threatening.

My Shih Tzu is sneezing and has a stuffy nose. Should I see a vet?

Bentley is very cute! I would recommend taking him to a veterinarian for a good physical exam. I would be concerned with an older patient that maybe his teeth are causing inflammation in the nasal passage or even an upper respiratory infection. In older pets a vet visit is always best. My dog was accidentally washed with carpet cleaner and bleach. Is she okay?

If Jazz is showing no symptoms by now, she will probably be fine. Symptoms to monitor for would be respiratory distress, red or inflamed skin, hair loss, itching, lethargy, excess salivation, excess thirst/urination or gastrointestinal upset (vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite). Seek veterinary attention if she develops any of these symptoms.

My kitten got bleach in her eye and fur. Should I bathe her urgently?

Lucy needs to be examined by the veterinarian this morning. Bleach will burn her cornea. This is painful and can quickly lead to an infection of the cornea. You will need to wash the bleach off her coat as well (because she may ingest the bleach trying to groom herself) and get her to the veterinarian quickly. If the bleach did burn her eye, she will feel more comfortable with the medication. Quickly wash the bleach off her coat and then have her examined. I hope this helps.
