Are bleach fumes harmful to pets? What symptoms should I watch for?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Domestos contains bleach. If it is not ultra concentrated and it was very dilute then the outcome is better. Usually symptoms start with in mins: drooling, red lips, irritation around the mouth, pawing around the mouth and vomiting if a lot is consumed. Bleach is corrosive causing irritation of the gums, esophagus and stomach. If the bleach you use is ultra concentrated then Harley should see a vet immediately. Otherwise if Harley got the bleach on his fur, bathe him in lots of water and mild soap. Rinse his mouth out with lots of water and encourage him to drink water. You can add chicken broth, tuna juice and even try some milk to encourage drinking. If he starts to show symptoms despite the above he should see a Vet. I hope this helps and I wish you the best!

You did just fine providing the treatment you did . In the future I just recommend you refrain from using milk - dogs really can't process milk well and some will get an upset stomach and/or diarrhea from it. I highly doubt they ingested the bleach but if you are worried you should take them to a vet for an exam. You know them best so if you are worried you should have them seen.

Oh dear, poor Shitzy! Bleach can certainly cause significant irritation to the respiratory tract if inhaled, skin or eyes upon contact. Shitzy will need to go to the vet for evaluation, particularly since he has been wheezing and having respiratory changes. Eyes are also delicate structures and can change rapidly, so his vet will be able to determine which medication is most appropriate for his condition. I hope that all goes well!

If Jazz is showing no symptoms by now, she will probably be fine. Symptoms to monitor for would be respiratory distress, red or inflamed skin, hair loss, itching, lethargy, excess salivation, excess thirst/urination or gastrointestinal upset (vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite). Seek veterinary attention if she develops any of these symptoms.

If Smokey only smelled the cleaning solution wouldn't be too concerned but you may want to take him outside to a well ventilated area to get some fresh air. If he drank any of the water I would watch for regurgitation, vomiting, lethargy and lack of appetite. If any of those things occur you should have Smokey examined by a veterinarian right away. I wouldn't worry too much. Bleach residue would at-most cause irritation to her skin or mucous membranes. As long as she's not in a heavily bleached room, the fumes would not be enough to cause any problems. Once bleach dries, it is rather safe and I would not worry about having her in the parts of the house where the bleach was. Large dog kennels at places like shelters and veterinary clinics are routinely cleaned with bleach without incident. I would only be worried if she drank bleach. I assume you mean liquid Clorox bleach. If it was only a small amount that was soaked into the sock and if Chandler is acting fine, you are probably ok as it’s unlikely he ingested much if any. When pets ingest bleach, it causes chemical burns in the mouth and upper GI tract. Checks his lips, mouth and tongue (as best you can) for any redness or peeling/bleeding, monitor him for not eating well or vomiting. If you see anything, take him to the vet right away. You can also give him a couple tablespoons of milk as this will help to neutralize any bleach he may have ingested - be advised it could also cause soft stool. When in doubt, have him seen.
