My dog bit his tongue and has a white sore. How long to heal?

It looks like an ulceration of some kind. Unfortunately the photo is not that clear. If she’s acting fine and eating and drinking OK I would not be overly worried about it at this stage. Just monitor it and if it looks worse or it doesn’t go away then she should see your vet.

Hi, this appears to be an ulcer or some kind of wound. I would check his mouth for other ulcerated areas. If there are none, he could have licked something that burned him like a chemical or something hot. Luckily, the mouth heals very fast and there should be no treatment required. I would expect it to get better within 1-2 weeks. If it persists and/or becomes larger than he should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. He may need an antibiotic or anti-inflammatory to help treat.

This sore could just be from an injury. I would gently clean it with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep him from scratching at it, you can put an Ecollar on him. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and he will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I'd also have him seen by a vet if the sore doesn't appear to be healing over the next week. I will put a link below on how to make an Ecollar at home. I am sorry to hear about Duke. If he is eating normally I would monitor the sore daily. It is possible if he is a chewer of sticks and things he could have traumatized the roof of his mouth leading to this sore. If the sore is not getting smaller in a few days or more sores appear, the sore appears raised like a mass, he has decreased appetite or energy level, then a vet exam is recommended.

There isn't much that can be done with some bleeding from the tongue, this is just something that you will have to wait patiently until the bleeding stops, it usually does within the hour. If the bleeding is severe and doesn't' seem to stop, then I would advise to take your dog to the vet so they can sedate him and sop the bleeding.

There isn't much you can do for irritation to the tongue. Thankfully tongues heal very quickly. If Toby seems painful, then he would need prescription pain medications since human OTC pain meds are not safe in pets. If he seems ill, he may need prescription antibiotics. You can feed soft food instead of hard food to avoid further irritation. I am more concerned about the cause of the wound to his tongue. If this is from biting an electrical cord, dogs can develop much more serious wounds in the following days and weeks that can involved the gums, cheeks, teeth, and even the lungs.
