My dog has a boil under his tongue. How long does it take to heal?

You cannot expedite healing as the body takes as long as needed to heal. As long as your dog is on antibiotics there should be no infection. By the time the antibiotics are all given, this should have healed.

It may just be a little boil that formed due to a mild infection or even trauma from his tooth. If it isn't bothering him then I would just keep an eye on it for the next 2-7 days to see if it resolves on its own. Most of the time these do. If it doesn't then have your vet take a look to see if treatment is needed.

I've seen this type of bump or sore after a tick or spider bite. It often lasts a few weeks and then resolves. If it's a mass and it enlarges please take him in to have it examined and removed if needed. As long as you are keeping an eye on it and it's not bothering your dog you can wait a week or two before getting it examined, as it may go away by then. Vitamin B tablets will not cause any harm, but I would not expect them to help heal sores or boils in the mouth either. It's quite unusual for dogs to get a sore or boil like this under the tongue, so I would definitely want to find out what is causing the problem first - it could be a wound, a bacterial infection, or even a tumor of some kind. Treatment will depend on what the underlying problem is, so it's important to get a diagnosis in order to know what treatments might be helpful. I would recommend taking Bruno to the vet for an exam - your vet can do some additional testing if needed to help determine what is causing the sore and get him started on appropriate medication to treat it.

Hello, my name is Dr. Shines and I certainly share your concern. This may be some type of infection but I'm also concerned this could be a skin mass. I recommend to have Tony examined by the veterinarian if this is not going away within 2 week. Skin masses can be many things but red raised masses are especially concerning for a skin cancer called a Mast Cell tumor. Your veterinarian will need to collect a sample of cell to examine under the microscope to determine what this is and if further treatment is needed. At home you can continue to apply a warm compress 4-5 times a day for 10 minutes at a time. Protect the area from any itching or rubbing. Tony may need to wear an elizabethan collar. Again, if it's not completely gone in 2 weeks (and if you don't want to wait, you don't have to), have him examined. It's better to be safe. Hopefully it's nothing!

There could be something still stuck below his skin if this is the case. Other possibilities include a bot fly larva or even a tumor of some kind.
