What's this red patch on my dog's tongue? When should I see a vet?

Hi, this appears to be an ulcer or some kind of wound. I would check his mouth for other ulcerated areas. If there are none, he could have licked something that burned him like a chemical or something hot. Luckily, the mouth heals very fast and there should be no treatment required. If you find that it is not healing, he should go to the vet for antibiotics. Good luck I hope this helps!

Hello. Those are ulcerated areas where the top surface layer of the tongue is damaged. This tipically is due to licking something that has thermally burned or chemically burned the tongue. Occasionally it can be from an infection. This can be painful, cause excessive salivation and become infected. It may affect his eating until it heals. Your veterinarian can prescribe pain medication and/or antibiotics if the area is causing your dog problems, otherwise, monitor for changes, foul odor, bleeding, etc that would indicate that it is not healing on its own. It could be a small ulcer, or maybe Max bit his tongue. I'd keep an eye on it for now. If it gets bigger, starts to bother him, you see excessively drooling, loss of appetite, or it doesn't appear to be healing, have him seen by a vet. Best of luck.

It looks like Decoy most likely has developed an ulcer. The type of ulcer he has is something more commonly seen in cats, but can be seen in dogs on occasion. The typical treatment for it is steroids and antibiotics, which will have to be acquired through a veterinarian. While at the vet, they will also be able to examine it to make sure it is not a growth or mass of some sort. This would be extremely unusual in such a young dog so I wouldn't worry too much about it. The ulcers can be somewhat resistant and take a while to get rid of, but in the end they are usually something perfectly treatable.

My dog bit his tongue and has a white sore. How long to heal?

it is possible that this is what occurred. At this time i would recommend to monitor the sore. As long as it does not seem to be worsening and he is still happy and not showing any signs of pain the sore should heal over the next few days. however, if by chance it is not gutting better on its own, veterinary attention ay be needed

What to do for my puppy's peeling tongue when no vet is available?

There isn't much you can do for irritation to the tongue. Thankfully tongues heal very quickly. If Toby seems painful, then he would need prescription pain medications since human OTC pain meds are not safe in pets. If he seems ill, he may need prescription antibiotics. You can feed soft food instead of hard food to avoid further irritation. I am more concerned about the cause of the wound to his tongue. If this is from biting an electrical cord, dogs can develop much more serious wounds in the following days and weeks that can involved the gums, cheeks, teeth, and even the lungs.

I would probably just keep an eye on it for now. Tongues bleed really badly but heal very fast. Check it a few times a day to make sure it is not swelling or having discharge that would require antibiotics or pain medicine. Also, in case you didn't know hydrogen peroxide will cause them to vomit if swallowed so be aware of that.

What if my dog chewed a battery and has red spots on his tongue?

Hi! Oakley likely has burns on his tongue from the battery acid. He could also have burns in his esophagus (the tube between his mouth and stomach). This could be quite dangerous. It is also important to know whether he may have swallowed any parts of the battery, as well, as it would carry battery acid into his stomach/intestines, which could be fatal. I'm glad to hear that he is still eating and drinking, but I would recommend that you take him in to see a vet asap. They can treat the burns on tongue, and, if necessary, Xray him to look for any batteries in his system.
