My dog bit its tongue and it won't stop bleeding. What should I do?

  Tongues have the tendency to bleed quite a lot. And applying pressure or a cold compress to the tongue willingly in a pet is problematic in most cases. You can try for about 5-10 minutes if your pet will let you.
  
  Otherwise, I would recommend taking your pet to your veterinarian if this has bled for more than 20 minutes continuously. Your pet may require a mild sedative and cautery equipment to finally get control of the bleed.

  It is good that the bleeding has stopped. Tongue cuts can bleed profusely and continuously when they are deep. However as long as the bleeding has subsided and doesn't start again Rocky should be fine. Continue to monitor him for the next few hours for any start up bleeding. If you do notice any profuse bleeding then you can try a cold compress on the tongue for a few minutes if he will allow. If not then a vet visit may be needed.
  However, if all goes well it is good to know that tongues are very vascular tongue is that it so heals fairly quickly. Give it a couple of days to heal. Take care of Mr. Rocky and be careful of those plastic frisbee's in the future.
