Old Yorkie with belly bulge, limping, and can't poop. What's wrong?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Brodie appears to have an abdominal hernia or some kind of mass. As a hernia is a possibility and he is uncomfortable, he needs to be seen by a veterinarian tonight on an emergent basis to assess and address the source of discomfort. If it is a hernia, intestines can get trapped in it and effectively cause an obstruction which would need immediate surgery to minimize risk of the intestines losing blood flow and dying off. Even if it is not a hernia, his discomfort alone is concerning enough to have him seen to help him be more comfortable. Usually, x-rays and/or ultrasound are needed to assess things like this, then further diagnostics and a treatment plan can be made. I hope this helps and that Brodie gets better soon!

It is really difficult to say whether this is a hernia without seeing the lump. I would just recommend monitoring the lump for now to see if it resolves on its own over the next 4-7 days. You also have the option of sharing a picture of the questionable lump via private consultation with either myself or another expert here to give you a better idea of what this could be. If it is a hernia then typically these are not considered an emergency, but when possible you should schedule an appt with your vet to get it addressed.

Poor Bulltejie! It is concerning that he's been laying down all day, and this lethargy can be a sign of many illnesses such as a systemic illness, infection, injury, kidney disease, or liver disease to name a few. I can't see from the picture what is going on with his side, so I can't hazard a guess as to what it is. Keep an eye on him for now, and if this lethargy continues through tomorrow, I would take him into a vet for a health check. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Ideally, Pepa should be examined by your veterinarian for a definitive diagnosis. A hernia is a possibility. Anal gland issues or an enlarged prostate are also concerns. These last two are likely less expensive to treat than hernia surgery, but without a diagnosis, it is difficult to say with any certainty. Discuss treatment options with your veterinarian after a physical exam.

This may be normal. Bentley could have eaten more than usual. If he's otherwise acting normally, I would not worry. Scooting the butt can be due to an anal sac problem, and they may need to be expressed. Have him seen by a vet for that and while there, the vet can check out his stomach. I hope this helps!

I am concerned that Goldie's umbilical hernia seems larger. If the hernia has opened up more, then the abdominal organs such as the omentum and intestines can slip through the hole, leading to strangulation of them. That would make her quite uncomfortable to sit and lie down, and pain would cause her to shake. Based on this, yes I would have Goldie see an emergency vet now.

Poor Elvis. Lethargy and walking slowly are very non-specific signs so it is hard to say what to look for in particular with no other symptoms to speak of. The knots just above his ball area sounds like his normal anatomy, this is likely his bulbourethral glands. However the lethargy is of some concern, so a proper physical exam by your vet would be the next best step. They will check him from head to toe for any abnormalities, including any abnormal heart rate, breathing rate or temperature (which would indicate infection). Make sure to check the house and yard for any toxins that he may have been exposed to. If testing needs to be ran, then the vet will recommend those to gather more clues as to the underlying cause of his illness. I hope things go well.
