My dog has a resistant infection. Is his Baytril dose correct?

Hello, sorry other about Lee. That is indeed a low dose for a Baytril prescription. I would double check with your veterinarian about the dose as perhaps it was intended to be given twice daily. Clavamox could also be administered to treat an infection either on its own or in combination with the Baytril. PGF2 Alpha is not an antibiotic and may help rid the fluid within the uterus but will not treat an infection. Hope this helps and best of luck.

The typical dose of enrofloxacin for dogs is 2.5 to 10 mg per pound (5 to 20 mg/kg) orally per day. The total daily dose may be given once a day or divided into twice daily doses. So, the dose she was prescribed is on the high end of the dosing range for her weight but still within the recommended dosage. If you are concerned I suggest you call your vet for clarification. 31 pounds / 2.2 pounds per kg = 14kg 14kg x 20 mg/kg (high end of the dosing range) = 281.8 mg 281.8mg / 135mg tablets = 2 tablets

There is a range for the dose of Baytril depending on what we are treating with the antibiotic. C is on the high end of the dosage range which does sometimes make it more likely that we will see side effects commonly associated with antibiotics (including vomiting). I would contact your veterinarian to advise them about C's vomiting and ask for their recommendation. They may adjust his dose, change his antibiotic, or recommend an anti-nausea medication. Diarrhea can be a normal side effect of antibiotics, but does need to be addressed, especially if he is not eating well. They may need to see Zeus for a recheck to assess if it is a reaction to medication or change in his illness. Many time enrofloxacin (baytril) is the best antibiotic to treat an infection even in young puppies. Discuss risks versus benefit with your veterinarian, but it is often used safely in severe illness. The concern of baytril in puppies was puppies given more than 2 times the recommended dose for 30 days developed cartilage abnormalities. A puppy recieving the approriate dose should be be at very high risk this complication. Please call Zeus' veterinarian this morning about his inappatence and diarrhea. I hope he continues to improve.

Yes, that should be enough antibiotics. If Hestia continues to have symptoms of sneezing and diarrhea after four days on the antibiotics then you should ask your veterinarian for more doses of antibiotics (probably another 4-5 days worth). Your vet may choose to switch to a different antibiotic. I would wait and see how Hestia is feeling after she completes all four days of the Baytril. If she truly is 105 pounds like it says on her profile, then this should be fine as that would be actually a low dose. The use of antibiotics without a proper veterinary evaluation is not recommended as it can result in antibiotic resistance, especially if the patient is underdosed chronically. Hello. Chewy does offer pharmaceutical drugs, but you will need a prescription from your veterinarian to order anything. You will need to see your vet anyway because there are no medications made specifically for rodents & the doses have to be very carefully calculated & often the medications compounded to make a safe dose for such a small pet.
