Why is my dog vomiting Baytril for anal gland infection?

I'm sorry to hear that your little girl is not feeling well. For a UTI, that is an appropriate dose of Baytril. Unfortunately, Baytril, along with most other antibiotics, can cause vomiting. You can either try to give the pill with food or cut it in half and give half of the tablet every 12 hours. This way she still gets the full pill every day, but decreasing the amount given at one time may decrease the upset stomach she is experiencing. If she continues to vomit, I would recommend contacting your veterinarian as she may need to get a different antibiotic if she can't tolerate the Baytril.

Poor Bayzel. Vomiting while on antibiotics could be an adverse effect of the medication, especially if he was just started on it less than 24 hrs ago. Notify your vet and another antibiotic can be tried. If he wasn't just started on the medication, then yes the chicken could have upset his stomach, especially if he isn't used to it and/or it had spices on it that just didn't agree with him. Offer him fresh, plain boiled chicken breast and white rice for the next few feedings and also some Pedialyte (non-flavored) diluted 50:50 with water to help keep him hydrated after so many bouts of vomiting. If he is still vomiting up water and food by tomorrow, then its best to take him to your vet for further care. These don't sound like signs that are related to his heart disease at the moment. Bloodwork analysis may help reveal the underlying problem. I hope that Bayzel feels better soon and best wishes moving forward with his care.

I hate to hear that Scout has an anal gland infection. I would recommend to call his veterinarian and discuss the lethargy. The lethargy could be a reaction but could also be due to the abscess. I would not advise to stop the medication without talking to Scout's doctor. Make sure you are giving the medication with food. I hope he starts feeling better!

Yes Baytril can help both in case of pyometra and aspiration pneumonia. Dose would depend on weight so I cannot really tell. Unfortunately though a check up is needed as pyometra could be resolved surgically in most of the cases. Megaoesophagus would require more investigations (ideally radiographs) to be diagnosed properly. Vomiting could be secondary to systemic infection or could have other origins (not easy to determine without more clinical informations at this stage). Hello. The range of doses for treating Pseudomonas is quite large, but we do recommend treating at the higher end. In some cases, this would mean your dog may need up to 400 mg per day ( 20 mg/kg/day ). At the very least, I would probably recommend the 75 mg every 12 hours or 150 mg once a day. This is quite bizarre and I haven't personally seen this reaction. She could be having just a reaction to the medicine itself or it could be causing some stomach cramps therefore causing the shaking. I would make sure you feed her a full meal and wait 10 minutes before giving the meds. If it is still happening, I would discontinue the medicine and call your vet for other options. Diarrhea can be a normal side effect of antibiotics, but does need to be addressed, especially if he is not eating well. They may need to see Zeus for a recheck to assess if it is a reaction to medication or change in his illness. Many time enrofloxacin (baytril) is the best antibiotic to treat an infection even in young puppies. Discuss risks versus benefit with your veterinarian, but it is often used safely in severe illness. The concern of baytril in puppies was puppies given more than 2 times the recommended dose for 30 days developed cartilage abnormalities. A puppy recieving the approriate dose should be be at very high risk this complication. Please call Zeus' veterinarian this morning about his inappatence and diarrhea. I hope he continues to improve.
