Is Baytril safe for puppies with diarrhea and respiratory issues?

Yes, that should be enough antibiotics. If Hestia continues to have symptoms of sneezing and diarrhea after four days on the antibiotics then you should ask your veterinarian for more doses of antibiotics (probably another 4-5 days worth). Your vet may choose to switch to a different antibiotic. I would wait and see how Hestia is feeling after she completes all four days of the Baytril. However, if Hastia's symptoms get worse while on the Baytril, then take her back to the veterinarian for further evaluation/treatment. I hope this has helped. Thank you for using pet coach.

Yes Baytril can help both in case of pyometra and aspiration pneumonia. Dose would depend on weight so I cannot really tell. Unfortunately though a check up is needed as pyometra could be resolved surgically in most of the cases. Megaoesophagus would require more investigations (ideally radiographs) to be diagnosed properly. Vomiting could be secondary to systemic infection or could have other origins (not easy to determine without more clinical informations at this stage). There is a range for the dose of Baytril depending on what we are treating with the antibiotic. C is on the high end of the dosage range which does sometimes make it more likely that we will see side effects commonly associated with antibiotics (including vomiting). I would contact your veterinarian to advise them about C's vomiting and ask for their recommendation. They may adjust his dose, change his antibiotic, or recommend an anti-nausea medication. Hello. The range of doses for treating Pseudomonas is quite large, but we do recommend treating at the higher end. In some cases, this would mean your dog may need up to 400 mg per day ( 20 mg/kg/day ). At the very least, I would probably recommend the 75 mg every 12 hours or 150 mg once a day. Baytril (Enrofloxacin) does have the potential to stunt growth or cause joint abnormalities with the cartilage if given in pets younger than 8 months of age. I would not expect these changes to occur with such a short dosage; however, I would recommend expressing your concerns to your veterinarian and getting them on an alternative medication. The whole class of Fluoroquinolone drugs are not recommended for pets under 8 months of age unless they are absolutely necessary. Best of luck with your pet Presto and take care!

It is hard to say if the diarrhea is related to Summer’s respiratory issues or not. If it was parasites causing the problem, they certainly could be related. Also, sometimes certain antibiotics can upset the gut flora (the normal bacteria in the gut) and can cause diarrhea. Regardless of the cause of the diarrhea, starting Summer on metronidazole and a probiotic is a good idea. This is the typical treatment for diarrhea. I can understand that having your dog on two different antibiotics can be concerning but sometimes it is necessary. Metronidazole is great for diarrhea because it specifically targets the type of bacteria that overgrows causing the diarrhea. At this point I would recommend continuing the current therapy your vet prescribed. The diarrhea should start to resolve in 3-5 days. Poor Bayzel. Vomiting while on antibiotics could be an adverse effect of the medication, especially if he was just started on it less than 24 hrs ago. Notify your vet and another antibiotic can be tried. If he wasn't just started on the medication, then yes the chicken could have upset his stomach, especially if he isn't used to it and/or it had spices on it that just didn't agree with him. Offer him fresh, plain boiled chicken breast and white rice for the next few feedings and also some Pedialyte (non-flavored) diluted 50:50 with water to help keep him hydrated after so many bouts of vomiting. If he is still vomiting up water and food by tomorrow, then its best to take him to your vet for further care. These don't sound like signs that are related to his heart disease at the moment. Bloodwork analysis may help reveal the underlying problem. I hope that Bayzel feels better soon and best wishes moving forward with his care.
