Why can't I bathe my dog for days after a vet visit or deworming?

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male

Hi I brought my shih tzu to the vet 2 days ago for his deworming, the vet gave a pill and an injection of vitamin B complex,..he said that we cannot give my dog a bath for 5 days,...why the we cannot give him a bath for 5 days?Thanks!

Hello, Toby may not be allowed to get a bath due to him being too young and the potential that he could be come too cold after his bath. Other potential reasons could include that he may be a little sick from his injection and thus giving him a bath may again make him too cold and make him feel worse.

If you do give him a bath, make sure its with luke warm water and that you dry him off completely after his bath. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Hmm... that's definitely very strange! I have never heard of anyone being told not to bathe their puppy until vaccines are finished, and have never given this advice myself - like you, I can't think of any reason at all why this would matter. I suspect that there may have been a misunderstanding, so I would suggest calling your vet's office and speaking to a different employee (or the vet, if possible) to clarify :)

There isn't a problem bathing a puppy prior to vaccinations, but I would recommend separating them by a few hours. You dog may just be anxious/nervous about the new experience. Make sure he is nice and dry so he is not too cold. You may also want to try and distract him with a walk or a game with his favorite toy to help him stop thinking about it.
