Can I safely bathe my dog after a hospital stay for pneumonia?

I'm sorry to hear Furo is feeling so unwell. If he is so weak that he is unable to eat or walk it would be best to keep him at the vet so that he can be hospitalized and treated with IV fluids to help regain his strength while the antibiotics work. He may need more intensive care than you can provide at home, especially if his pneumonia is bad and he is unable to breathe well. If you cannot keep him hospitalized, talking with your vet to see if you can start giving subcutaneous fluids at home may help him some. Wet foods that are warmed up may also be easier to eat and can provide both nutrition and hydration for him as well.

Hello, Toby may not be allowed to get a bath due to him being too young and the potential that he could be come too cold after his bath. Other potential reasons could include that he may be a little sick from his injection and thus giving him a bath may again make him too cold and make him feel worse. If you do give him a bath, make sure its with luke warm water and that you dry him off completely after his bath. Hope this helps and best of luck.

It is safe to bathe him during this time. He may have picked up external parasites while he was out of your home, so a bath may help remove some of these. I would ensure that he receives normal monthly flea and tick preventatives, as well as monthly heartworm prevention. If he continues to act sick for more than 24 hours, I recommend having him seen by your primary veterinarian. He/she may recommend bloodwork to look for evidence of underlying disease that could be contributing to his clinical signs. I hope this is helpful!

I'm sorry to hear that Beau isn't feeling well. You can certainly give him a warm (but not hot!) bath in a water-filled tub if you'd like, but I doubt that the bath will make a significant difference in his congestion. Instead, try taking him into the bathroom for 10-15 minutes when the room itself is hot and steamy since this can help to temporarily relieve some congestion. Also be sure to keep his nostrils clear of any discharge by wiping regularly with a soft, damp cloth. If his congestion continues for more than a few days, he experiences a loss of appetite or lethargy, or if Beau develops yellow or green nasal or ocular discharge, he should go to his vet for evaluation. If Oreo is still sick from Leptospirosis, then I would not recommend bathing him. It is never recommended to bathe a sick dog unless medically necessary. The other concern with Leptospirosis is if Oreo is still shedding the organism in his urine, then it is possible that he can spread the disease to you, so you need to be very careful handling him and may need to use gloves and a mask to bathe him if he has urine on himself. When Oreo seems to be feeling back to normal, I would recommend asking your vet about when to bathe him and what precautions to take.
