When can I safely bathe my dog after recovering from distemper?

I would allow at least 4 months if your other dog has recently beed diagnosed with distemper before you allow your puppy to interact. Distemper doesn’t live very well outside of an animal. To be on the safe side I would wait a few weeks to a month before bringing a new puppy into the environment. I would also clean everything with bleach. I would also make sure the new puppy has already had its first set of vaccines. The puppy will need shots every 3 weeks until it is 15-16 weeks old. If Oreo is still sick from Leptospirosis, then I would not recommend bathing him. It is never recommended to bathe a sick dog unless medically necessary. The other concern with Leptospirosis is if Oreo is still shedding the organism in his urine, then it is possible that he can spread the disease to you, so you need to be very careful handling him and may need to use gloves and a mask to bathe him if he has urine on himself. When Oreo seems to be feeling back to normal, I would recommend asking your vet about when to bathe him and what precautions to take.
