Why does my Corgi bark all night when my girlfriend sleeps over, help?

You say you have tried many things that don't work. Do these include telling her "no," throwing a can of pennies in her direction, and other such interventions? If so, you may be encouraging the very behavior you want to stop. Dogs seek attention in various ways. When they want it, even negtive attention (scolding, etc.) is better to them than none. If you are certain that all of Juniper's needs have been met, and she has been vet-checked for a possible undiagnosed condition, then you must ignore the barking. Totally. Completely. But, as Dr. Phil says, "You don't reward bad behavior." She may even get worse temporarily, because if you always responded to the barking before, she may try the "more, longer, louder" approach. This could definitely be related to the fact that your kids are away. But you must not give in and bring him to bed, as that is a reward for his efforts and will only encourage him to bark longer (He is saying to himself, "Gee, it worked before! Why isn't it working now? Guess I'll have to try harder!) As annoying as ir might be, you need to ignore the barking (I'd suggest starting on a weekend, or whenever you ahve a few days off and do not need your sleep as much). I see that Rhea is still very young, only about 6 months old. I'm also not sure from your description if she is barking because she needs to go out and potty, or because she is anxious and lonely in her kennel. If she is needing to potty this often at night, I would be concerned that she may have a medical problem such as a UTI causing this - in that case, it would be best to take her to the vet to have this checked. If she doesn't need to potty but is just restless and upset in her kennel, I would first make sure that her kennel is in your bedroom - right next to your bed, if possible. It's not natural for puppies to be all alone at night, so many pups will cry if they are isolated in a separate room from their owners. Normally, moving her so that she is nearby resolves the problem - you can talk softly to her to reassure her if she wakes up and gets scared during the night.

I would recommend you discourage this behavior as much as possible. You can try doing positive reinforcement which basically means to praise and reward him with treats when he does the desired behavior which is staying quiet when locked in cage. It could be that bella has realized if she barks she gets attention from you all. She is barking to get taken outside or even just attention through the night. I would recommend trying to crate train her. This will allow her an area that is safe and only hers. The crate can be a really positive place . You can start off by putting her in it for short intervals and rewarding her going in and coming out. it is important to make the crate a happy place. You could also try just moving her to another room so she is not sleeping with you all.

Relentless barking is typically a sign of anxiety. The anxiety is probably due to one a few different causes. If Pilot is typically used to being with you during the daytime and is forced to be separated at night this maybe a root cause of the anxiety. Another possibility is that Pilot is simply not being provided with an area in which he feels comfortable to rest. If you haven't already, I would recommend crate training him. There are tons of articles and YouTube videos on how to properly do this, the dos and don't of the training, and the size of crate you might need. Once the crate becomes Pilot's "den", it will be a comfortable place for him to stay. I think this is a good place to start. You also have to remain strong in terms of ignoring the barking. I realize it is extremely loud and irritating, but EVENTUALLY Pilot will stop on his own and tire out. If you give in to him, you are only shooting yourself and him in the foot unfortunately. Poor Koko! The most common reason that puppies tend to cry at night, is when they are separated from their families - this often happens if they are crated in a different part of the house at night. Dogs are very social animals, and young puppies in particular would normally never be alone when they are sleeping - so they will often bark and cry if they are separated from you. I would recommend having Koko sleep in a comfy dog crate, right beside your bed. If needed, you can even place the crate on a low table or chair so that she is at eye-level with you - this way, she is in her own separate space but she can hear you and smell you beside her. This is also a good arrangement because it allows you to hear her if she cries to go out during the night - many puppies this age can't "hold it" for more than a few hours at a time, so nighttime potty trips are often needed for a while. Once she is older and sleeping through the night with no problem, you can gradually start to move the crate further away from the bed, or even eventually into another room if you prefer.
