What to do if my dog's back paw pads are swollen for a week?

Yes, the circulation was compromised but the nerves could also have been damaged. My hope is that with time the nerves and vessels will return to normal. If B is holding up the foot it is likely painful. The vet can prescribe pain medications to help him feel better. Good luck!

This is likely causing Savage a great deal of pain and discomfort and further evaluation and treatment of this will require veterinary treatment. Your veterinarian would be able to appropriately medicate him for pain control and possibly sedate him so that the paw can be carefully inspected to look for possible reasons that can result in swelling such as a foreign body stuck in the paw. They would be able to proceed with treatment based on findings. Good luck and have a good night!

If this sore has persisted and does not seem to be getting any better despite your efforts to manage it, I would recommend Ace see his veterinarian soon. Your veterinarian may take a small sample of the area to determine what it is and if it is concerning or not. Treatment will depend on what the diagnosis is. If your veterinarian suspects it is infected, Ace may need to be on antibiotics or other medications as needed. I hope this helps!

From the photo this doesn’t look too severe. You can wait until tomorrow If you can massage her leg for 15-20 minutes to get the circulation going. Having her walk around will also help decrease the pain and swelling. I would continue the massage and walks until the foot is back to normal. This looks like it will improve quickly but if it’s still swollen in the morning please take her in for an exam. I recommend resting him for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a leash, and bring him right back in when he's done. If he still appears painful after this time, then I would take him into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. He may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. This most commonly happens when a string or piece of towel or blanket gets wrapped anound the foot. Please check it carefully to make sure nothing is stuck on it stopping the circulation. Then you can soak the foot in warm water and massage it to increase the circulation which should reduce the swelling. Do this several times a day. Make sure he’s still eating and is kept warm. This can sometimes happen, one day it looks good and does not hurt, and the next the dog injures it again because it did not hurt anymore but is not quite strong enough. I suggest that you keep your dog from getting dirt into the injury, preferably keep him from running around too much and take him back to the vet for a recheck on Monday. If the swollen area is colder than the rest of the foot, he needs to be seen by a veterinarian today, as there may be a serious problem with the blood circulation of the leg.
