Dog back pain, tight stomach, tiny BMs after vet. Should I worry?

Not being able to poop isn't a side effect of the medications Trixie is on, and I'm concerned that her not being able to poop is due to her back. Back problems are common in Dachshunds, and pressure on the nerves of the back can cause bowel problems. I'd take her into a vet immediately.

This sounds like it may be a neck or back problem that can be affected the spinal cord causing stiff legs and a tense abdomen. The pain in the back can make the abdomen tight. Is she able to walk or get up? That will tell you a good deal about how serious this is. She does need to go to the vet for blood work and exam to see which area is affected and what your treatment options are

He needs to rest. You can use a sling or towel under his belly to help him stand to go potty and take short walks in the yard. Many dogs with neurological injuries will have muscle spasms and that can cause the knotting up that you are seeing. The tightness of the belly indicates that he is in pain. This can be due to constipation, but can also be due to diseases of the intestines or other organs (i.e. liver) in the abdomen. Hi and good morning! Thank you for your question. If he has gone 3 days or more with no bowel movement, then I'd bring him into your veterinarian to check him out. He could have a blockage or a neurological issue causing dysfunction of the nerves innervating his colon, a GI tumor or kidney dysfunction causing a dehydrated colon. Keep an eye on him and keep feeding a high fiber diet as you have been. Hope he passes stool soon!

If she is a small breed dog, neck or back pain are common sources of pain. The muscles that line the spine can spasm causing the dog intense pain. In worst case scenarios, pressure can be put on the spinal cord resulting in neurological problems. If this is not the case, abdominal pain from GI upset or even constipation could be the source of pain. It will be very easy for him to become dehydrated from the loose stool. He sounds nauseous by the way you described the lip smacking. I suspect that he is not eating well. He could be painful from gastrointestinal upset or it is common for small breed dogs to experience neck or back pain. While he could be constipated, a lot of dogs with strain with diarrhea only passing a drop or two. So it appears that they are unable to defecate.
