I would still ensure that Freckles is resting plenty and not overdoing it with activity. Dachshunds have a tendency for spinal injuries and if he is feeling better on medicine, it does not mean that the injury is better. Providing plenty of rest for the recommended amount of time should help Freckles make a full recovery. I would try to keep him as quiet as possible, and if the muscle spasms continue, I would have Kona seen by a vet.

It's hard to say what could be causing this without examining Maxx. It could be caused by pain, internal medical disease (such as liver disease), electrolyte abnormalities, neuromuscular disorder, etc. If it doesn't appear to be getting worse and Maxx is otherwise normal, then it can probably wait to see the vet.
