My puppy has a high fever and won't eat. Is Augmentin dosage safe?

From the picture you have provided I would suspect that Lolo and the other pups have an upper respiratory infection with that eye discharge being present. I would recommend having them seen by a veterinarian as I would not recommend giving a human product without the consent of your veterinarian due to appropriate dosing. I would recommend starting them on Clavamox, which has a different concentration for animals. This will need to be prescribed by your veterinarian once the puppies are examined. Yes, you can use Augmentin but you are going to need a lot of 62.5mg tablets for a 42kg dog! The dose ranges from 5 to 12 mg per pound (10 to 25 mg/kg) twice a day. That means for a dog this size, he needs 420 to 1,050mg at each dose. Even using the lowest end of the dosing range you would have to give him 7 tablets twice a day.

I am sorry to hear he is not feeling well. I would highly encourage you to have a follow up appointment with your veterinarian as soon as possible. Young puppies need nutrition and will Parrish quickly without it. Viral infections such as parvovirus can cause fever and inappetance as well as many other possibilities. If he is eating, nursing and taking the medication I am not sure why you are worried. I agree with what the other vet said. Don't stress him by continuing to take his temperature. You don't have to be worried unless he stops eating and/or nursing.

Poor guy. Not every pet with a fever has an infection, so if the antibiotic isn’t working it’s either because there is no infection, the infection is internal, or the antibiotic is not the right kind of antibiotic for the infection. Your pet needs additional testing to sort this out and make sure we are on the right track with treatment. I would start with baseline bloodwork and a urinalysis. Best to take your pet back in to your vet or to another vet for a second opinion here so that we can get a proper diagnosis and tailored treatment based on your pets specific problem. Hello. Thank you for reaching out to Pet Coach. I am not familar with the antibiotic that you specifically have mentioned. However, in the US we do use something that sounds similar, called Clavamox. Either way, all antibiotics should be given with food if at all possible to avoid upset stomach. Many cats have a reduced appetite when they have a fever, so it is not surprising that Haro Kitaru is not eating on her own. I am very sorry that she is feeling ill and has a fever. If you are able to give her a small amount of chicken or turkey baby food before administering the antibiotic that would be best. This will reduce the chance of causing an upset stomach. Discontinue giving the paracetamol immediately. Paracetamol (acetaminophen) can be toxic to dogs if given in large amounts. Please have him rechecked by your veterinarian. Tell the doctor exactly how much paracetamol your dog has been given.
