My dog vomits Atopica on empty stomach. Can I give it with food?

The half-life of Zitac in dogs is a little over and hour, so giving the Zitac between 30 and 60 minutes prior to the Atopica may help reduce the nausea and vomiting. Anecdotally, giving the Atopica with a small amount of food or freezing the pill for 30-60 minutes before giving it, have been reported to reduce the nausea side effects. You may also want to speak to your veterinarian about some of the newer H-2 blockers such as ranitidine or famotidine which may be more effective at preventing nausea.

This medication does not usually cause stomach bleeding but can cause vomiting. I would definitely let your vet now about the brown coloration, and if it happens again you can save the vomit and bring it to your vet for them to look at. If you're not already doing it, Keeping this medication in the freezer can help decrease stomach upset!

I'm so sorry to hear about Lusso. If she has a sensitive stomach, then I would try to give the Loxicam with a little food. Even a small amount of a treat or a bit of bread might be enough. If she generally does not have a problem with a sensitive stomach and Loxicam has never bothered her before, then you might be able to get away with giving it on an empty stomach, but I always recommend trying to get something into them around the same time as the medication to prevent other problems. If there is a particular time of day that she tends to eat better than others, you may also consider changing the time of day that you give the Loxicam, so it can be with some food. Good luck! Hello. Atopica does not typically have a side effect of lethargy. Overdoses or adverse reactions can result in lethargy, so if she continues to be letthargic I would have her checked. Your vet may need to check her white blood cell levels or her liver values. I hope she feels better soon!

I'm so sorry to hear that you have not been able to get Annabelle to take her Atopica. Often the best option for getting cats to eat medications are very stinky foods. I have found that a number of the Fancy Feast canned foods are the tastiest and stinkiest. You could also use a small amount of canned tuna (packed in water) or baby food (as long as it doesn't have garlic or onion powder in it). I would also recommend giving the canned food on an empty stomach. We do not want cats to go more than 24 hours without eating, but if you feed dry food, you may have luck if you pick up the dry food at night, then put down the canned food in the morning. You may also consider feeding an entire meal of canned food (if you find a type that she likes), so there is less Atopica in each bite. Good luck! I hope that was helpful and gives you some ideas. If he has pustules then he may need to be on an antibiotic again to treat an infection. Atopica can cause side effects in some dogs and if you dog is experiencing negative side effects then you could talk to your vet about switching to a new allergy medication called Apoquel. I have used it on may dogs and it seems to work very well with minimal side effects.

IF she was suffering from diarrhea for a long time before you stopped the Atopica then yes, it is normal, it can take several weeks for the condition to resolve, discuss with your vet regarding some probiotic products to try and help with the recovery.
