My dog ate Zofran (Ondansetron). Is this dangerous? Should I go to ER?

This is a rather big overdose, but this drug is relatively safe to overdose. Signs of an overdose can be vomiting and muscle tremors. If you don't see any of these after eight hours, then she will be fine. If you do see vomiting and tremors, then it's best to take her to the vet for treatment and monitoring. A dog Googly's size would get about 12 - 25mg every 12 hours. If it has been over 24 hours since Lola vomited I think I would give one more dose of zofran and then discontinue the medication. As long as she is eating normally and does not continue to vomit I don't think you have much to worry about. However, if the vomiting starts again you may want to restart the zofran and have Lola examined by an emergency veterinarian (especially with her history of PLN). This is a very high dose for a 20lb dog and some effects are likely to be seen. If it was eaten within the last 90 minutes, then it's best to take him to a vet so they can induce vomiting and give other treatment to prevent absorption of the drug. At this dose he is in danger of having tremors and possibly seizures, it's best to take him to the vet as soon as possible for treatment and monitoring. Generally, you don't want to exceed 4mg total dose daily. You may see excessive lethargy or sedation and maybe some ataxia (wobbly gait). Rarely, Xanax may cause nervous system excitement or liver issues. If the ingestion was within the past 2 hours, the safest option would be to have them seen at the nearest veterinary ER. Vomiting can be induced via injection to get any medication out before it is absorbed. If you can't take them to a vet now, you can monitor for the above symptoms and have them seen if necessary.

Hello! Fortunately that is a very safe medication that we even use in dogs. It can cause some vomiting and diarrhea that usually goes away on its own. Watch closely for signs of dehydration if vomiting occurs and if there are any significant behavior changes that concern you, than a vet visit would be warranted.
